s4tch did specify "performance". I'm not sure what that entails.
basically nothing. our low defense score is down to our playing style. a high defense score means a lot of tackles, plenty of interceptions, etc. a team with high possession will automatically get a lower defensive score: since they have the ball, they don't have to actually defend that much. i bet the monaco team we played a couple of years ago had a very high defense score: they gave up on possession, but i remember their midfielders topping all tackle charts, that was their main asset.

this season, the team with the highest defense score is watford. let's just let it sink in a bit.

I suppose that's because they have aggressive players, starting from the front with Deeney.
yes, plus they have a low possession usually, so they HAVE to defend a lot. and besides deeney, they do have capoué, who's a top10 player in the pl in both tackles and interceptions.

Let's not kid ourselves. Our performances have ranged from clinical, efficient and effective to underwhelming and sometimes even abysmal and atrocious at times. I'm glad we're getting points and being brutally efficient, but it's obvious that with a relatively weak and disjointed midfield, we're not getting points for style and dominating opposition or possession. I'm still concerned about our encounter with ATM, and for me that's the most important fixture of the season.
So just like any other world class team. Do people seriously think that some teams don't have their up and downs during a long season?

Never complained about winning, brah.
It's a myth that our football is somehow "worse" than the last 8 years. People are just so used to our winning in Serie A that for some it has become boring. It's actually pretty understandable as that can happen when there's a feeling that you can't achieve anything more. CL is the only thing that matters for some these days.

They get bored of winning Serie A, call it a tinpot league, say only CL matters...

...but then react furiously when our team looks disinterested and bored too and gives the minimum effort necessary to win in this so-called tinpot league.

It's crazy. Hold the highest possible standards for others while none for themselves.

I disagree that it's a myth. Our football has gotten worse entertainment wise.

During the Conte era we played some really good football. Our midfield play was a joy to watch.

Allegri's first 3 seasons were also pretty entertaining IMO. Although at the beginning of some of those seasons we looked pretty meh, we still managed to play better come February or before.

This season so far has been terrible in terms of entertainment. I blame it on our disgusting midfield, not on Allegri but I'm surprised that he still hasn't changed the formation to something that would bypass our talentless midfield. He always found the right formula for the players at his disposal.

It's just an excuse to be bored, the reason is different imo as I mentioned. We've played some good football and some bad football this season just like during any of those previous seasons.

People have rose-tinted glasses on when they are comparing past seasons to this. I've read those same complaints about the quality of football for as long as I've followed this forum.

Wonder why that is... :lol3:

You're also forgetting that we hadn't won anything post-calciopoli going into the Conte era... We've now won the league 7 times running, and have a 9 pt lead already just past mid-season.

Just a thought, but motivation in domestic competition might have been a wee bit easier during the Conte era.

It's the same thing every year under Allegri. It's almost unbelievable that people still ignore it and try to ridicule it as others believing Allegri has some esoteric magic switch.

We play by far our best (and also most attractive) football around the beginning of CL Rof16 onward. It's quite simple as to the reason why. Sport science explains it simply, and if some don't think teams valued in the billions don't utilize the tools of sport science, I don't know what to say. Periodization and peaking are major things in every sport.

The tactical thing is the same too. You experiment with tactics and line-ups through the beginning of the season, to find what works best for the team for the important part. Allegri has done this every year, and done it very well in most of them.

We barely emerged from group stage in 14-15, then did the domestic double, and played CL final after knocking out a Madrid that has been unbeatable in Europe every other year of the last 5. We almost lost the scudetto in the first two months of the next season, then went undefeated for 26 rounds, and played some cracking football with Pogba leading the mid in 15-16. In 16-17 we had forum meltdowns about the group stage when we drew Sevilla 0-0, and agin after our 3-1 loss to Genoa in November, and ended up with a domestic double again, and smashed through the CL knockouts to the final. Last year, was the first year it could be argued we didn't up our levels substantially down the stretch, but we did in ways... We beat Tottenham playing without possession and exclusively on the counter (while this forum continually claims we have no idea how to counter), and then we smashed Madrid in the return leg playing some scintillating football, going out on a last second penalty. And another domestic double, in which we held off a 91 point Napoli.

We're not even at the Rof16 yet, and already our season is a "disaster" according to some. Surreal

There are only a few who complain about the entertainment value of the team. I think most don't really care, including me. Most care about being the most prepared as possible for the CL knockout stages, and nomatter how much you keep going in circles about last seasons and number of points won, in long posts like post_ironics, then it doesn't change the fact that our team currently looks in pretty bad state, with no clear lineup, no clear game plan and terrible results in the most recent games. That's where we are at currently. That doesn't mean that things can't change, but its about time.
