Before the match he said we can't match them physically or we will suffer, we need to play a good game tactically and technically to beat them

He was right and we didn't do that at all, so many balls thrown away
No doubt thats why he was pissed

But you can with the supposed four attackers if their primary role wasn't to sit next to fullbacks.
You can only press if everyone can press.

CMs who can't press make it impossible even if you had 9 Cuadrados ahead of them.

The only time we press with 4-2-3-1 is in very opportunistic times. Khedira trying to press Dembele is a joke. He will get spun into the ground.

We got rid of Alves for obv reasons after his comments in media about Dybala.

Bonucci would not have made difference tonight.
Seeing Chiellini play useless inaccurate longballs from the back showed how much we missed Bonucci tonight. He was one of our key players to our possession game.

Matuidi is the only good physical mid we have and he was injured. Huge difference. Khedira cant last 50 mins these days and Marchisio is quite anonymous as well.

We have Pjanic for passing.

Bonucci is more important if you play back 3. We dont play back 3 anymore.

But Pjanic needs protection from a good physical partner like Matuidi might be. Khedira is done now. Should not start at all and we all see that Marchisio is also past it.

Allegri had to play Berna as a CM/DM tonight or alternative is Sturaro.

The injury problems fucked us hard tonight. Put Matuidi in there and we win the midfield battle and dont throw our lead away.
Also Dybala might have taken the pen had the played.

Before the tidal wave of "pussy tactics' starts:

The formation was too aggressive. It wasn't pussy. It was a mistake to play with 2 CMs and not 3. It's not a pussy tactic if you are playing with 4 midfielders instead of 5.

We couldn't grab possession because we didn't have enough in midfield. Because we had one too many attackers on the field. He went with Khedira-Pjanic in front of the defence which is basically the most aggressive and risky thing you could do.

This is actually the most common theme with Allegri in CL. It's not pussy tactics, it's the opposite. It's why we got smashed in the 2nd half vs. Madrid. He risks a lot to defend with 8 instead of 9 and hope our attackers can put chances away.

And still it basically worked as we should have had a minimum 3-2 result.

To be honest, when we went up 2-0. If he switched to a 4-3-3 with Costa on LW to utterly $#@! Aurier, the game would end 4 or 5 nil.

There is a lot of room in that Spurs defense, if we are able to play out of the first pressure. I think that the 4-3-3 is the key and adding a guy in midfield who is able to hold the ball under pressure. Given his unexperience it is a bit of a gamble, but I would put Bentancur in there. He is the only guy who has the right caracteristics. Also we need to put more pressure on Dembele, he had Way to much room tonight and could run the entire midfield.

I think we have a good chance of going through.

Dybala has missed 2 penalties this season, I'm not convinced he'd have scored 2 in one game either.

Most of the pressing falls into two cms when your attackers are covering flanks instead of positioning narrow close to lone striker infront of the two man mid. Erikssen had a field day while most of the energy went to nullifying Lamela and fucking davis.

The technical level was shocking, but it just shows how key Pjanic is to that. When he plays like crap or is missing it makes a huge difference to us.

Allegri is probably more embarrassed than anything because whatever he was trying to do the players didn't get it or bother with it and it made us and him look really poor. We didn't play like an experienced CL team, and more to the point when things went against us we didn't look like veterans either. We looked like a team panicking and with no idea.

Obviously this will all be because Spurs are great and all the rest....yes, they are a good side and confident but the mix of personnel and tactical issues killed us. We've played some really top teams at home over recent years and honestly I struggle to think of a worse home CL performance in that category, a strong KO game. The Bayern one perhaps but we had a weaker team then.
