Strange how he never got to manage one of the big three clubs, Milan clubs and Juve have had plenty of clowns in charge during the last decade who are way less qualified than Spalletti. I would have liked him here instead of any one of Ranieri-Ferrara-Zaccheroni-Del Neri, but we've grown a lot since then and he'd be a big gamble now.

Yes, what a terrible failure it has been for Spaletti to finish second.

All those years where he had the best team/squad in Italy and wasted it.
Conte had the inferior team to Milan in his first season at Juve. He won the Scudetto.

That's the difference between winners and losers.

Losers like Sarri, Nainggolan, Spalletti... will always find an excuse.

Being an inferior team is a pretty good 'excuse', I think.

And with the injuries Milan had in Conte's first season at Juve, if there was a gap between the teams, it was not big.

And why do Juve need a coach who can win the league with an inferior team?

Do you expect Juve to not have the best team in Italy any time soon?

So you'd want Guardiola, who's great at winning when he has the better team ?

Spalletti would finish second or third with this Juve if he was in charge.
I think, as with most quality coaches, the question about Spalletti isn't whether he could win Serie A with this Juve (I'm pretty sure he could and would), but what he'd achieve in CL with it and so far in his career nothing suggests he's capable of winning in Europe

It really is not a good excuse. Only expecting to win when you have the superior players is a loser mentality. Football is a team game and a great coach should be able make his players overachieve because they are able to count on their collective strength.

No necessarily.

But Juve don't need a Conte to win with their current players.

Allegri is a 'loser' coach. He has always got his teams playing as they should/finishing in the league where they should.

He doesn't make his team over-perform or over-achieve.

You can't expect to win with lesser players.

You can hope the best team don't perform well and gives you a chance if you do very well.

Is Spalletti or Sarri going to have failed this season if they get about 84 points but don't win the league?

Of course you can, what the heck. That's what makes a great coach.

I'm not only talking about this season or any particular manager even, just pointing out that it's ignorant to to say the team with best players always wins. We've seen Atletico and Leicester winning a major league just recently and their competitors certainly had the better players.

This is not true either. Allegri over-achieved at both Sassuolo and Cagliari. At Milan he probably did what was expected and here I'd say he has easily over-achieved as well winning back to back doubles while going to the CL final in one of his seasons.

What about CL, would you say Spalletti is a good choice if we want to challenge for CL every season?
I can't remember anything good about him in Europe apart from knocking out Real almost 10 years ago

Allegri overachieved his first year because he made it to the CL final. He underachieved his second year getting eliminated in the round of 16. Yes we almost defeated Bayern but we still lost and furthermore if we won our group we could have won the whole thing because we would have faced the same opposition as Manchester City.

I don't think Simeone or Atletico fans expect to win La Liga or reach CL finals regularly, they hope to be successful, but acknowledge that the odds are not on their side
Exactly.

I didn't say you couldn't win with lesser players.

I said you couldn't expect to win.

And while Atletico did great things, I still believe their success was as much due to the failure of the teams with better players.

I'm not for a moment suggesting Juve should appoint Spalletti.

But I generally object to coaches like him being branded losers for not winning with the likes of Roma.
