With these comments "we need to avoid Bayern and Barcelona" he's starting to sound like Conte. :sergio:
He sounds like a smart guy who wants to optimize his teams chances to go as far as possible, NO ONE wants to meet them, especially in first playoff game. If you can avoid it by winning your group, its best believe to be something you must do, its that simple, but I guess its a concept too complicated for you?

So, even Enrique and Barcelona want to avoid Bayern. And I'm pretty sure Pep wants to avoid playing Barca too soon again too. So what does this say?

It's called being pragmatic.

No team in the world would fancy facing Bayern or Barça this early into the competition.

Extremely silly to overanalyze his statements like that.

“Today's kids? They don’t play on the street anymore because society has changed and there aren’t spaces any more. We need to artificially rebuild things from the past, we should have tools to force the boys to think, otherwise they are raised like chickens. Look at them, there is no communication, everything is through the mobile phones, they spend the days sending text messages and then it’s clear that there is no debate and they aren’t able to withstand heavy words and will start to cry.”

In some ways I like how he isn't too serious of a character away from the field. Typical Livornese for sure, in fact anywhere around that region. I know those kind of people all too well, and they live life.

In football now there are so many serious and maniacal characters, self-absorbed celebrities in their own right. I can see why many look to intimidate and scare players, but knowing when to be angry is a skill in its own right.

What vile peasantry is this?

The coach presses the importance of finishing first by saying we'd avoid certain big teams.

Good, cause id like good draws like last year.

How in earth do some interpret that as "we send a message of inferiority to "?

Hey, why dont we deliberatly lose the first 3 games so we win the next 3 and qualify, just to make a point..

Relax Zach, you still take things too serious after 5 years on the forum. The next 5 will be slightly better for you and you will intercept things differently.

Telling the players point(s) from this game will increase our chances of advancing to the QFs is literally the only thing he can say to motivate them for this game.
