EuroMax did what Arsene Wenger should've done against Monaco at Emirates, if Wenger was pragmatic, which he's not.

Monaco has top team personnel, but isn't embarrassed to win in a provincial unglamorous manner, which makes them similar to Simeone's Atletico. Any team would struggle against them when they are parking the bus. Especially teams who'd rather counter-attack in games like these.

Players wasted chances, Pirlo gave away balls as we have come to expect from him in Europe, but Allegri got the tactics right. And he was sort of forced to start Pirlo when ideally Marchisio should've been in that position flanked by Vidal and Pogba.
But, as someone else said, if you have to start Pirlo in a knockout game then this is that game. Pirlo is a liability, but vision is needed to get through a strong defense.

i agree with you man, but next round i think it would be more logical to play Barzagli instead of Pirlo. and bunch on the counter. just like the dortmund game.

a lot of hate on pirlo here. Given the circumstances ie injuries I think Allegri was right to start Pirlo. And everyone's talking as if he was the sole reason why we had a pretty awful first 20 mins - the whole team/most of them played like shit in that opening 20 mins, not even being able to string any passes together and losing the ball - we clearly felt the pressure - the same would've happened probably with 352 anyway when it's your mental block.

Allegri's HT talk obviously did some wonders as when we came out for the 2nd half we seemed much calmer on the ball and played our game.

And I don't care if Pirlo is slow or whatever in some games you need just that one moment of magic from someone - and these are usually provided by the gifted ones - and yes, Pirlo is one of them. He's slow because he's ageing but you cannot take away his vision, skill and experience. If you'd like to argue "he only made that one pass to morata" - well it was THE pass that won us the game. Sure it's easy to say "if we played 352 this would've happened that wouldve happened" ... no not really. Allegri stuck to his guns, we won, no goals conceded. End of story.

Well put!

Although i can't deny that seeing Pirlo against a counter attacking team really does cause heart attacks, he is a special player and no doubt his vision and experience will help us, and it did today, but if i was to choose 352 without Pirlo or 4312 with Pirlo in A CL QF match, then i will stick to the 352 without Pirlo, Allegri did mention if Barzagli played, then Pirlo wouldn't and vice versa, looks like Pirlo was the fitter of the two and got the nod, and I am thankful for that pass.

All in all, good result and not conceding really is fantastic against a team who play so defensive. Hope we can capitalize on the second leg where they must attack and open up.

Forza Juve! Forza Max!!

I think Allegri had wrong approach in first 20 minutes.
But after that, juve came back into the game.
Second leg?
It will be interisting.
Monaco will/must take initiative because they need at least 2 goals to go through to semifinal.
We will have more space in second leg.
