I consider the acquisition of a LB as our priority, both tactically, to improve our current team by switching back Chie to the center of our defense and maximise his performances and spare us of the +20mil weaklink called Bonucci, all the while upgrading to a more capable offensively LB, who is needed in Conte's scheme.

And strategically, in an efford to improve the overall quality of the team, by adding a new quality starter and take us a stop closer to the competitive level, we once had.
So we need a proven player, experienced and proven enough to help us right away, but also young enough to last for a while, as we are still rebuilding our team and it might get a while more until we do that.
We have wasted the past 6-7 years with cheap and free players that were only meant to be quick fixes.
IMO, our perfromances have suffered a great deal because we have underestimated the effect a decent fullback would have in our performances, esp the defensive ones, who appeared to be our weak point, until Conte took over.

Another reason we struggled so far to find a oermanent solution for this cronic issue, (apart from the fact that we were unwilling to invest for the defense, as it only boost performance and not spectacle) is thet fact that we were desperate to keep the % of Italians, as high, as possible.
Unfortunately for us, the latest crop of Italian defenders is the worst of the past decdes.
Italy was always a world power and much of its strength always relied on a solid defense.
Esp in the left flank, the NT has so little options, that is forced to make compromises and play players of position.
You can imagine that if the NT team, who can choose the best without limitations has problems and has to compromise, imagine us, who have to pay for every of them and compete with the wealthiest and most powerful Italian clubs for them.

This is how we ended up waiting Molinaro to become a decent player, hired Grosso with the hope that he is not as bad as he looks and hope that Bonucci can become smth more than Legro.

Licht though, one of the best transfers of the new age Juve has paved the way.
And Conte, arguably the smartest coach we ever have since calciopoli, at least for defensive issues, has sensed the need we have to upgrade our defense and how importnat it is to our overall performance.
So hopefully, after suffering so much from the Italian compromises, we have decided to invest on foreign defenders.

Normally i would aprove Caceres, for being young enough and not chosen from Nationality reasons, actually i would be jubilant to see us investing more on the defense than yet another on new mediocre and unreliable/proven CMs and SSs.
But Caceres did not convince me at his spell with us, for his defensive skills, airball skills and tactical awareness.

He was very young, malltreated and played in a formation that wouldnt favor offensive fullbacks.
If he has now improved as a player overall, kept his spark and further improved defensively (a fullback who can play as CB, means that can tackle with elegance, imho a mandatory trait for any kind of defenders, unlike marathon runners like Molinaro, who are way too clumsy to intercept anyone in our box)
He could be a fine choice. (knowing Marotta it is prolly a sentimanally driven option, as we have run out of ITalian and cheap/free option and we want to appease our fans, with someone who has a degree of respect with our jersey)

But for 2+7mil
For 2+10-12mil, i believe that we can broad our options, to far better/proven players.

Why isn't this thread in the transfer section? I bet its more relevant over there right now. I tend to forget about this signing and this thread because its in the history section :D
good point, mods please do the honour.

yeah but wasn't he not 100% fit or something? rather than actually being placed on the bench due to pending transfer
not sure, funny how he's getting 'injured' when he's days away form being sold...

"We like him. I hope we can make a deal before Jan 31st. Sevilla want 11-12m for the buyback option, we want it at 6-7m. We'll see." - Marotta
