Exactly. That would have been a pretty poor performance if it wasn't for the two goals he scored. Besides, his job isn't to score goal, I'd rather have him not sleeping in defence than scoring goals.

Conte too, as far as I understood his comment, was disappointed by Caceres' defensive performance at San Siro. The coach didn't say directly how Caceres played bad in defense, but from his words ("Martin Caceres needs to do better in defensive terms, but I really cannot complain about his attacking movement tonight") it was pretty obvious imo that Conte was far from pleased.

We seem to have forgotten how bad Caceres used to play defense two years ago. Some sliding tackles, attractive ones, fooled some people, but generally Caceres was a disaster in defense. Only Marco Motta did worse than him.

Worse than bonucci or DC? I don't agree. He also played as a wing back no? instead of the more defensively responsible CB position?

And yes, goals do matter. He scored more goals in one match than Bonucci and PDC combined in the entire year. Bonucci got nothing while going forward and that would be ok if he was any good at defense.

And there is no reason to think Caceres will suddenly become good at defending because he is told to play CB.

If Bonucci is always good for one foolish error per game, Caceres is good for two or three.
