According to this, Fonseca said Juventus are the only ones showing a firm interest in Caceres. He's confident that something would be worked out in the next 10 days.

Not sure he'd be a good buy... maybe a loan as Mark said (upgrade to Knezevic...).

Geof,

You make the idea of Cacares joining Juventus sound wholly unattractive.

First you have doubts about his quality and then refer to him as an upgrade to Knezevic. Are you taking of an upgrade so small that it would be imperceptible?

That's not very inspiring. Hardly the stuff of scudetto dreams.

Quite frankly, I don't know what to think about him. I know Barca bought him for a lot of money, but since then he failed to impress. He's very young though and could have a lot more talent than he has shown this season (the general consensus being that he had an off season).

I've not seen enough of him to judge.

Have you?

Thanks for the response Geof.

I saw Barcelona a fair amount last season on the Sky UK coverage (Barça is on every weekend).

I cannot recall a single appearance by him. Given the merits of Poulsen, I suppose it's worth considering the gamble of a scambio if Secco is aware of this guys talent - as opposed to potential talent.

However, I'd much rather go down the route of a proven defender who can be bought for less. We cannot afford to take unecessary risks in our quest to wrestle back the Scudetto.

Elkann let slip in a Turin business meeting that "many deals" were still in the pipeline even after Melo deal so I remain cautiously optimistic that Juventus will do everything in their power to make a significant strengthening of our defence that makes it as watertight as a ducks arse.

The next few days will be just as important as the last eight weeks.

If he comes to Juve then I am pretty sure that Grygera will leave. Caceres would be our second choice for RB and he will also be an alternative for the CB if needed. Just like Grygera but younger and probably better.

He can't be worse than Cannavaro, that's a FACT.

I say, do it, feel it, rock it

His problem with Barca was mainly nerves and lack of confidence. He has clear talent, from what I seen in Recretivo and Uruguguay NT, is comfortable on the ball and fast, though not so strong physically.

Would be great to have him on loan with a reasonable option to buy. According to News of the world celtic want him on loan and there were rumours of zaragoza wanting him too. However call me a believer but Ill take secco and co's 'words' straight from the mouth when I say thats our (incoming) transfer campaign over.
