Not to defend Secco or anything, but he had to rebuild a team that went to Serie B into a protagonist in Serie A. He made quite a few stupid transfers but I'd argue Marotta had an easier situation than him.
Juventus (in the Secco era) basically have had the same squad they did when Juve were promoted back into Serie A. He didn't really do much, Diego was probably his best signing but he always had a Champions League team to attract players. What does Marotta have? A rebuilding team which ended up in 7th place last season, and no CL? Keep Marotta around until we make Champions League then lets see what he can do for us.

This is what I hate about last minute deals. It's not a player I'd like to see here, but he HAS to be brought in, considering the injured strikers and thus the lack of options too. At this stage, we have to say yes to this guy. Or else we'll be making it hard for ourselves.

Boriello scored 14 goals last season, why is everyone saying he's absolute garbage? And want players like Paolucci and shit rather than him? Sure, I'm not ecstatic or anything, but hey if he can score 14 goals again for us, I'd take him. I rather have Robinho, or some world-class striker but if this is what we can do, take it.

Generally, you spend a while looking at players before you even think about making an offer. That's what your back room staff (scouts, coaches, etc) is for. Even without a full time manager they should always be working to come up with player files to present to the new manager.
it seems like a kind of "stop-gap" like players you would only want to have for a season to fill up the team for depth.

when some of these players convince you can buy them, if not its no problem. i think that the board thinks that we will play champions league next season, so they will evaluate which players did well the past season and which did not... and on top of that its more simple to get rid of the players that did not perform if it was only a loan in the first place. if we achieve CL qualification we will easily say "fuck off" to players that did not perform and will have the possibility to get better players in that position (because of our CL status).

i see no problem in taking someone on loan for a position you really need, if you are not convinced he is really good its the best you can do.

so i guess a few of the loans will not be made permanent if we qualify for CL and we will get better players (that only come to us because we play CL) in those positions.
