I disagree.

I think this is a great move by Argentina.Managing a NT is different than managing a club.If you had to name ONE man who could lead Argentina to great things only the basis of the support he would generate,it's Diego. The nation will unite behind him,the players will unite behind him,and im very sure that he will give them the level of inspiration that Argentine squads have lacked over the years.Lik a club,Diego wont deal with transfers here,he wont deal with weekly matches,he wont deal with consistency that you need in a season. But he will spark life into this team when they need it most,on the sheer magnitude of his reputation in the country. He has all the Argentina talent at his disposal for the NT.All he needs to do is lead them, and he's beyond capable of doing that.

Argentina to win the 2010 WC.

This is bigger than Pele managing Brazil,Beckenbauer managing Germany or Baggio managing Italy.

i agree that diego will have the respect from the players and so on.
they will listen to him and follow his words, but what does that bring a team, when the words that come out of his mouth are evidence of his crack-smoked brain and he just gives stupid tactics and formations ?

i do not think that argentina will get the better of a side where the coach has even mediocre tactic skills.

if all it takes for argentinas national squad is motivation and skill, then yes they could win something, but i don't think that diegos motivation will be enough to overcome tactical playing italians ;)

I agree with Salman that Maradonna will give Argentina squad new inspiration and even sheer unity like you said. But sometimes life doesn't go our way, inspiration and unity don't guarantee victory or good result. Moreover, with such impulsive character, there are chances he would have conflict with some players. Who knows, one day the squad could see their coach get drunk and could not say a thing, give a right formation or etc...I always admire Maradonna as footballer but as a person in general, I think he's a bad guy.

He won't even make it to the WC. I can see him with a riffle during a closed training session and shoot at some journalists that are trying to get close to the action.

I agree he will be able to unite everyone and everything in Argentina.
But if he is capable of leading the team, is someone else.
He has the luck that the players are all experienced on the biggest stages so they can do a lot of the coaching theirself.
On the other hand, he has to make sure the ego's don't take over from the correct team spirit, I wonder if he can do that, it will be interesting to follow Argentina from now on, that is certain.

He will probabley start to become a drunk again and fuck up the Argentina National Team, and then he wont be a national hero anymore, im sorry i just really dont respect Maradona and dont think he is the greatest player that ever lived and will not be a good coach. Pele is the greatest player in the world because he was a true sport and never was addicted to cocaine or an alcholic. This choice of coach by the Argentine Football Federation was just something that would make the fans excited. Dont be expecting a world cup any time soon Argentina lol.
