Locatelli 5 – Juventus didn’t move the ball quickly enough. Should have helped the defence more when Juventus took the lead.

Read this from one of the player ratings for yesterday. Appears this is the MO with this team in general. Especially hurting us in the midfield where I believe that's the most important area to be quickly decisive offensively. Defenses have that extra second to defend. If anyone like to differ/add, please do so. Not near the most knowledge poster here.
Thing is, Allegri has this perception that he's a regista but he is not, but at the same time I don't know why Allegri thinks a midfield must have a regista.

Locatelli is terrible.

I have to laugh at myself now for hating on Khedira, Matuidi and Pjanic.

Although they were the beginning of our also decline in midfield they were still miles better than what we have now.

A major issue over the years has been that anytime we sold a player we never replaced them with anyone better except for a small number of times..
Hes not terrible but he's nothing like the class of Pjanic in his prime for example. I think he is a better player than what he's showing at Juve and I have seen a different a better locatelli under different managers.

Everyone is a better player than they are showing under Allegri but there are certain players who are so bad that they can be excused i.e Kean, Alex Sandro and the constantly inconsistent Locatelli.

Kean was always a shit player.

Locatelli has some qualities but his lack of mobility will always hold him back in the modern game.

Fascinating to see how members tread so lightly about criticizing this player. While other players breds get trampled on if they have one bad game. Yet this guy has made a career out of being average at his very best

Quite the tuz case study

But Cristante was played at Mou's Roma who we're criticized for even worse football than us, i don't buy this argument.
I'd take Mou's football over Allegri's

Trampled players like who? Sandro? That clown should have left years ago he deserves every bit of criticism because you actually know what you're going to get from him now.

Heart is in the right place and he always works hard, I'll give him that. But much like the rest of our midfield, he suffers from having work horses around him. Rabiot suffers for it too. McKennie too. Three workhorses that are not geling either. Loca's passing is average at best and perhaps he wouldn't shine in a different trio but I don't think we would have to be as critical because he would actually contribute with something else compared to the two others. Now he offers protection and a bit of grinta along with leadership. Rabiot and McKennie offers legs, similarly to Loca. It's like trying to build a house but we only have three hammers instead of a hammer, screwdriver and a saw. Or something. I really don't get this set up, which may look good paper but has shown to be not working.

I wrote at the beginning of the season that coming into March Allegri would finally come around and realize this set up wasn't working and he would revert to a 433 or something of the likes. Especially considering we have five defenders and three DMs... (Mourinho would approve) but I was clearly wrong. Allegri is more stubborn than I thought.

In short: With other team mates Loca could be beneficial. But he does add a bit of leadership in a squad that is lacking a bit of it. I'm not sure if he will be a starter in the future, but I'd like to keep him around as rotational player and to be either a sitting pivote of two or as a "stabilizer"/B2B in a trio. While he offers protection as regista, he offers nothing else in possession.

One bad pass in a match and Weston will have more shit posts in his thread from that pass than this guy gets for a wide spread of poor matches

He doesn't make meaningful passes because there is nobody in a meaningful position. He can't long pass like Pjanic, but he can hit a few assists if allowed to go forward. However, with a back 3 he often has to shield them even though he isn't a tackler. You saw Chiesa when we briefly went 4-3-3 and he came to life. I think like everyone else in the squad, he is heavily handicapped by our tactics. He might not be a great player, but he certainly isn't this poor normally. Same argument for Vlahovic, put him in an attacking team and he'll score a ton.

So it’s everyone else’s fault?

odd that the seemingly inferior midfielder has no problems notching up assists, killer passes goals and/or goal opportunities

Normally? Define normally? He has sucked for a couple years now so…what’s normal?
