who was our top scorer last season?
Del Piero, I think, scored 9 goals last season. Which is not impressive at all. Our team was in turmoil last season. And if I remember correctly, a handful of those were from penalty kicks. So he wasn't anything to write home about last year.

I think Diego to start is a better idea, once Diego came on today the team changed and we scored four goals in one half. I know it was only a friendly, and against an amateur(ish) team (European standards) but even from this game we can see that Del Piero has lost his spark. I know this man is our captain, and it hurts me to say this but its true. His time has come to hang up the boots, after this season I don't want to see no more Del Piero. ADP should come on for Diego when he's tired/injured/unavailable. Other than that he has to lead our team from the bench.

Del Neri is just showing respect to Del Piero, the captain and club legend. If Diego plays as he has been so far this pre-season, Del Piero is going to be warming the bench IMO. Iaquinta cant create, he can run a lot and thats about it...offers no creativity at all and unless we get some super creative wingers, he will be useless as that deep forward behind the striker.

I like the fact that DN has his structure put in place...this is great and exactly what the team needs...structure was what we lacked most last season.

and the other thing it does is keep del piero confident. at the ripe old age of 36, he may be questioning his abilities etc...so the coach saying such things may keep him motivated and confident.

On the flip side, it makes Diego work harder this pre-season...and seeing the game last night, it kind of showed that he wants in more than ever so overall i think Del Neri is using his words wisely.

Del Neri said: “We are still incomplete. We lack a winger, a centre-back, a full-back and a striker if one leaves.”
I m very pleased to see that he sees the lack of quality in our defense. Hopefully some actions regarding that, will materialize soon! Although not as high on our priority list and after starting with the left foot (payed for bonucci what we needed to get mexes+gallas, just because he is Italian)
Perhaps something was lost in translation..........
Or not, there is a reason Del Neri is considered such a limited coach. He is not able to take the maximum advantage of our players potential.
His vision is dif to our course up until now and cannot be fully shaped within a year.
Esp as we have already started to compromise and lose the players who would play an essential (Dzeko to fill the role of the lone, ultraeffective CF)
And when Del Neri leaves we will have to start over... I dont understand why we rushed the coach so much and the continuiti of our course.
The ones we had before were actually no real manager. But they have found a way to use our players/tools...
Del Neri beeing Capello stubborn will cost us more in the long run, just for the much needed and inevitable ephemeral improvement... (Again the tactical over strategical issues that have been haunting us since calciopoli and brought us where we are, with small mind managerial tactics, like quantity>quality, youg+Italian etc. Small clubs tactics, that lack vision and lead us nowhere...

Diego will start I'm sure of it.

The way he come on yesterday and he changed the game was immense. Del Piero will hit the bench next season I think.

I need the picture where Diego was walking off the pitch and Del Neri slapped his face to say well done. Luigi

Del Neri spoke about Diego's position, and how he remembers the 5-1 demolishing his Sampdoria side got last year when we used a 4-2-3-1, and more specifically, when Diego was behind the striker with Giovinco and Camoranesi to the sides of him. He believes that is his role.
