Del Neri doubtful over Diego's future Wednesday 14 July, 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri doesn't think Alessandro Del Piero and Diego can play together, fuelling speculation about the latter's future at the club.

The Bianconeri are torn between keeping Diego and selling him just a year after his €25m transfer from German side Werder Bremen.

The Brazilian playmaker flopped last season and his characteristics don't suit the 4-4-2 formation Del Neri would like to use in Turin.

“There will not be competition between Diego and Del Piero,” said Del Neri. “But it will be difficult to see them play together.

“If Ale is well he will certainly play and Marchisio will be one of the two central midfielders.”

Del Neri was then asked about the club's five strikers.

“Of these five, two will play and three will be out. Trezeguet is working a lot. He has goals in his DNA. He behaves with great application and for me he is part of Juventus' project.”

Diego starts, DP is the sub.

I don't get whats so difficult to understand about that, 36 year old DP should not be starting every week.

If Diego gets sold than our club is officially moving backwards.

I don't believe a word of what he says. I think he is doing it ease himself into the culture of the team. Here you have Del Neri and his boss coming in trying to give the team a facelift and the last thing you need is your best young player to be disgruntled with the legend. Don't take his words to heart.

Please, guys, learn to ignore headlines and article filler and pay attention to the quotes. Del Neri never suggested that Diego is likely to move. He said that he can't see Diego and DP playing together. To turn that into "Diego is gonna be sold by Sunday" is absurd.

What Del Neri did say was that if Del Piero was fit, he would get a free pass to play no matter what. It isn't quite clear, but it sounds like he will play no matter what over Diego, even if the latter is in better form. That's what it sounded like.

Out of the comments Del Neri has made, these haven't been so good, IMO.

if that happens then it show that the player has become bigger than the club and therefore a burden!

provisons should not be made just because his name is Del Piero. Look at how SAF has been able to use giggs and scholes. Look at Raul at Real. We need to accept that it is time to move on.

Call me a doubter, i don't care.Yes ale has proven time & time again he can overcome the odds and the nay-sayers, but what will happen the day he doesn't overcome the odds and proves his nay-sayers correct but still commands a starting spot based soley on status over the younger players.

Someone was right when they said in another thread that this is exactly what is holding calcio back. It's the age old argument, everybody wants ppl with experience but how are u expected to find ppl with experience if nobody is willing to give them a chance?

But how come a player that is so important for the team (as Del Neri previously said) can't be regular , I don't understand that state, it is a bit contradictory.
indeed, very hypocritical!

What was said doesn't make a lot of sense.

I think it either wasn't said or it was (deliberately?) misinterpreted.

About a week before he gave an interview in which he said that no player no matter what is gonna play week in week out if he wasn't ready, even Alex. Only players on 100% form will start and no one is guaranteed a spot. That's what I read and from that Im willing to bet my money you would see any player out of form starting, we didn't see it in Ferrara and Zacc's time ffs, don't rush into judgments.

And Del Blacks certainly had better interviews than this one, much better ones. So don't put it all on this one. It just doesn't make sense.

You started out well but then your reasoning disagreed with mine when you said "over Diego".

I take it he meant that Del Piero is untouchable and he can't do anything about it.
