Del Neri: 'Diego important for Juve'

Saturday 10 July, 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gigi Del Neri has sensationally taken Diego off the market. “He can play an important part for Juventus and is tactically similar to Cristiano Doni.”

The Bianconeri need to whittle down their squad after bringing in a series of new names and Diego is one of those expected to go following a poor debut campaign.

In his first training sessions, the Coach has been testing him out as a support striker, much like Antonio Cassano at Sampdoria.

“Diego is a very different player to Cassano, as I feel he is tactically similar to Doni,” insisted Del Neri in today’s Press conference.

“He is working hard and can do very well. I think he can play an important part for Juventus this season.

“Diego must be free to roam the final third, as he can play easily as a support for a lone centre-forward or as a trequartista behind two strikers.

“Quite aside from tactics, the important thing is to have the right mentality. Every player must work for the team and not as an individual. This squad needs certainty at every level and once I’ve chosen a system, we will not change it.”

Del Neri is still working on the tactics ahead of Juve’s early start to the season in the Europa League preliminary round.

The squad numbers were unveiled today, but further adjustments are expected on the transfer market.

“We must move cautiously,” said the Coach. “Spending money for the sake of buying is pointless, otherwise we may as well keep the players we have now.

“Juve must have an identity and a style of play, that is what President Andrea Agnelli asked for and where we must start from.

“We must absorb that mentality and then take it with us on to the field.”

So even though this new system might not be working for us. Del Neri will not change it and adapt to our players untill he is fired.
He will try to be a poor man's Capello.
Considering his pedigree, we know that we cannot go very far with such a ... limited coach.
But this mentality might help us stop underperforming as we did the past year while being coach-less.

No, no it isn't.

The 'Great' Coaches these days stick rigidly to a 4-5-1 4-3-3 hybrid and just throw on extra strikers when thins go tits up.

The 4-4-2 can be defeated by tall defenders and quick defensive wing players, that's pretty much it, a 4-4-2 can beat Barcelona, in fact it's the Anti-Barca formation, which makes it the most non gay formation on the planet.

Delneri will use a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 most probably. He won't stick to it during a match that's not what he means, he will change it in game if it doesn't work but it will always lineup as a 4-4-2.

May Allah smile upon the 4-4-2!

4-4-2/4-4-1-1 is very one dimensional. It seems that Del Neri has already made this decision. Althought i respect his stance to keep certain roles/balances and help us define a charactep. I doubt our current material can put this formation to optimal use and is bound to fail or underperform. If Del Neri will not reconsider there, despite the obvious viable alternatives, it could be counterproductive. Of course at this point, it doesnt really matter, as we cand do any worse and we are not going to be competitive anyway... And hopefully by next year, we will have a competitive coach!

All football formations are one-dimensional:

4-3-3 Play it out wide, run fast cut it in
4-3-1-2 Play it to Playmaker
4-2-3-1 Play it out wide the get the AMC to link up with ST
etc. etc.
