Luca Toni has furiously slammed rumours linking him to Juventus, claiming they were planted to ruin his rapport with Fiorentina.
“There is more talk about the transfer market than today’s game,” he said after scoring the winner in the 1-0 victory over Catania.
“All joking apart, I was irritated by these rumours and others too that were equally untrue. I don’t want to talk about the market because there are people who want to play on it and put me in a bad light.”
The 2006 Capocannoniere had requested a summer move to Inter, but was persuaded to stay, although new reports in several newspapers this week suggest he is set to replace David Trezeguet at hated rivals Juventus in a £35m deal.
“I am a Fiorentina player and want to do well with this shirt. My problem is that I was perhaps too honest in the past. It’s part of my character.
“In truth, it was laughable that the day after the transfer market closed they wrote things that were completely untrue.”
