I guess it's more a case of Bari are not sure if he is worth buying outright, or lack the funds to do so, than we still believe he may recapture the form which persuaded us to buy him originally, and then bring him back next summer to prove an asset for us the season after...Good luck to him. Tiago has been given 10 times the amount of chances, and Poulsen also, now has the chance to redeem himself...Perhaps playing for a smaller club will help him refind his rhythm...though bari, from what i understand, is hardly a quiet, provincal township!!! Explosive, passionate, demanding, hopeful tifosi...Still, surely the weight of expectation will be far less, than a club expected to challenge for domestic and european honours.

Is the general feeling amongst the better informed of the members here, that De Ceglie is NOT going to become a decent, RELIABLE, left back this season? and so the need to bring someone else in, like Grosso, is our strongest need, in terms of Transfers?

And what is happening with the right flank. Zebina, Sali...grygera apparently wanted by...turks maybe, but surely not barca. he is goblin through and through...

Sali and Caceres can both challenge zebina and De Ceglie...and Grygera...with only Molinaro left to rot, or shot.

If we could get Lazio's starting fullbacks that would be awesome but that won't happen. I don't see us spend 10m on a fullback, I can't image for 2.
DC still needs to prove his defensive awareness but I think that'll come with experience and the help of Ciro. I would take Grosso but not at DC's expense. Molinaro's ? ASAP.
I'm ok with the right side if Zebina if fit. Brazzo and Caceres will be useful.

That's pretty much where I stand also, Mark...Its worrying to read of Napoli's interest been rekindled. Why would that be so, unless they had reason to believe they could make something happen???? Hopefully just paper talk...

It makes no sense whatsoever to lose De Ceglie, the younger, still capable of developing player, and bringing in Grosso, an experienced pro who would definitely make the left back position more secure than anyone else in our squad, for a year or two...and having Molinaro as the main backup.

Still, my concerns about Molinaro playing much this season are cooling in intensity. As Ciro knows that he has 3 other players, even now, who can play there.

What we need is Zebina to stay fit and secure the right flank. And one of Sali or Caceres to do the same on the left flank. caceres can cover both sides, and also push to take Legro's position in the pecking order for the centre back roles...We could be fine as we are.

I think Ciro likes DC and wants to throw him in the game because he believes in him. Napoli are sneaky bastards. I think they got rid of Vitale today so they might look for another LB. I'm hoping in Dossena or even Grosso. I want to keep DC and we need that home grown player too.

What do you think of De Ceglie, Mark? Possibly ready this season to prove himself worthy of a starting role at left back? Or best for him to play understudy to both Sali or Caceres at left back, and the central midfielders, who I suppose he could deputise for...Poulsen is naturally a dogged central midfielder, but would say that De Ceglie could be as, if not more useful there than the apparently revitalized Dane?

For me, De Ceglie's strengths are his crossing, energy, pace and strength. He is very raw, defensively speaking, and if Security was the key, i would presently put him behind Sali, at left back, but in front of Molinaro.

And I agree...we need to keep and develop our homegrown players, trust and believe in them. If he is good enough to play consistently for the azzurrini, as was Criscito, we must give the chance to prove himself with us...
