Mainly the defence but also the fact we couldnt find a guy to bench Locatelli.
I dont think Locatelli is bad but I think we can still do better, tough to find but achievable with hard work.
Koopmeiners has subbed out Loca in both games and the team immediately looked more fluid both times. I think people forget how good he can be. This whole “system player” stuff is nonsense. Gasp just knew how to utilize his skillset. He looks poised for a good season and should be starting before long. And I‘m not anti Locatelli, but a good Koop is a different level. He was one of the best and most productive mids in the entire league.

This feels highly unnecessary given that we have Vlahovic on a mission for another year.
44 million is a lot of money for a player who scored 13 goals in 45 matches last season. Even Vlahovic has better numbers last season.

I hope he proves me wrong.

He's a different kind of forward though, isn't supposed to be a genuine scorer/#9.

He had 28 goals the season before that. And Leipzig as a whole had a disastrous season last year, so I wouldn’t put too much weight into his record last season.

We want to have players that thrive in 1vs1 situations. Yildiz, Openda, Chico and Zeghrova are all capable of beating their marker creating an advantage.
Which is totally fine and it's something that gets a passing grade in Europe. However, I do worry about our formation. 2 players behind a striker? Why? Or we're planning some new and never seen before.

We're just following man united footsteps, as they play the same formation.

Atalanta, Roma, Parma, Milan, Pisa all play with this. It worked for xabi alonsos leverkusen and gasperinis atalanta. Conte had success with this at chelsea.

Im with you though, I dont particularly like it, the imbalance is hard to manage and heavily reliant on them wingbacks which we are short on. Attacking wise it atleast makes us look exciting.

I don't know why people are getting worked up about the formation, I don't care if we play a 2-3-5 if it meant we had suitable players for it and it worked. So far there's little to suggest a need to change formations, despite our flaws in certain areas of the field.

Yes but why the sudden drop in form after the new year? It's like he continued his fine form for the first half of the season and then gone.
He scored 24 goals for Leipzig in 2023-2024, 21 for Lens in 2022-2023 and 18 for Vitesse in 2021-2022.

I'm not going to lie to you and say he's the best striker I've ever seen, but he does score goals.

Stretching my imagination a bit ,his game reminds me of Tevez
Not far-fetched, there are some similarities. But Tevez stood out for his mental toughness and proving it on the big stage. Openda's always felt more like a Vagner Love on steroids to me. Fortunately for us, he's a bit sharper off the ball and more disciplined in his pressing, which is probably why Tudor wanted him.

So how long will he be away on international duty?

Would like him to get substantial training with the team before the Inter game.
Against Inter he will be on the bench. There is no way a player just bought get a starting spot that quickly.

After Inter - I wouldnt be surprised to see him somehow in the starting lineup alongside Yildiz. Conte would have probably used the 4-2-4 formation and find a way to field most of them but with Tudor and his 3 men defence - I suspect it will either be Yildiz behind Openda and David or Yildiz Conceicao behind David. I dont think he can play as a lone forward as he was mainly the guy next to the top scorer.

I will wait a bit before making comparisons but I do understand where he finds the similarity. Tevez is more decisive though while Openda is more creative (just look at that pass against us that led to Leipzig`s goal.
