It's not my position to say that any laws are just or unjust in any country but my own, but it is the position of the world to discuss equality.

The only grotesque thing about the laws is if the woman was sentenced to 5 or 6 years in prison and the man wasn't held to the exact same standards.

If she goes to prison for 5 years, he should as well. Without question.

i didn't mean it that way, but if we can't get these jobs at our country, where could we. just think of it, UAE is an open market while locals have the goverment support for jobs, the private sector supports foreigners. don't look at Etisalat as a private company since it's 60% owned by the goverment. there is a fair chance for everyone to get a job here.

Etisalat does recruit foreigners, me being one working there, and many others. What etisalat does is give 50 % of the basic salary for the UAE locals which is IMO fair enough. What really pisses me off is differentiating between expats of different nationalities

the role of a government is to protect the people's right to pursue happiness, within the constraints that that pursuit does not harm someone else. when that constraints harms someone else the punishment should fit the crime, not the way it is expected in a 2000 year old book, or any interpretation thereof, but again keeping in mind the role of the government mentioned above.

some examples - conceptual sex between two people of the same sex does not harm anyone, marriage between two people of the same sex does not harm anyone, public sex harms people in a very tiny way, hence the punishment should be nothing more than a slap on the wrists.

that, my dear friends is known as liberalism and quite frankly it rocks, it kicks ass and you will not be able to understand the benefits unless you leave in it. while there are various forms of liberalism and people will always argue about which one is the best, the matter of the fact is that it still is the same great liberalism.

1) Most people here are quite happy with the laws, so the government has fulfilled its obligation there.

2) Thats not true for everyone though, from a muslim's point of view, that is extremely harmful. and this is a muslim country.

3) Liberalism in concept is good, and in fact that "2000 year old book" you talk about, promotes the idea of equal opportunities for everyone, freedom of thought, freedom of speech and all that, but its the modern type of liberalism that i and probably most muslims find hard to embrace.
