England and Italy got the easiest groups. But while England will get a tough opponent in the first knock out round (one of Germany, Serbia, Ghana...), the Italians, if they win the group and if Holland does the same, will get one of Denmark, Japan and Cameron.

Spain will get one of Brazil, Portugal or Ivory Coast in the first knock out round

The Czechs were already in a free fall after 2004. Nedved was 34, Koler was 33, Poborsky already retired iirc. USA was nothing special and Ghana was the 4th team.
Not an easy draw but far from extremely difficult. And then they got Australia and Ukraine in the next two knock out rounds.
