Okay that ended in disaster (with squashfs errors all over the place). I think it has to do with my hardware config and most probably my faulty cd drive. I should try installing it from a pen drive instead.

Is it possible to use the pen drive like an installation disc? I don't want it to run on the pen drive but on the hard disk. (I'ven't read the site yet )

When I installed Ubuntu on my USB drive, I could use it as a Live CD as well as to install it. So I think it should be possible. Give it a try.

Yeah will try it over the weekend. The best part is I can try different distros and keep the one I like.

Yes, but limited amount of System storage space is a downside. If you install updates, then that space is taken up really fast. Unless you have an 8gb or 16gb pen drive, it's not ideal for daily use.

True, but I was talking only about the liveCD part. Makes system rescue much more enjoyable.

I downloaded an iso of a DVD. I am unable to play it with vlc or movie player. Help!!!!!!!!

Google Daemon Tools, download and install. Mount the image, that .iso file, and open the DVD as you would a physical one.

I just extracted the iso and now vlc is able to open it. Mounting was possible without any external applications. Anyways thanx V
