I left Ubuntu installing on my PS3 before I left the house today, which was awesome because I haven't had an awesome geek project to work on for a long time (aside from the handsom victory that was installing Ubuntu on my housemate's Mac G5 - unfortunately it turned out horribly due to the horribly unsupported PowerPC architecture, but my friend understood that that wasn't Ubuntu's fault, and has said that he'd take Linux over Windows any day).

Hopefully it works out well and I can turn it into a media centre, though I've since found out that Yellow Dog would be a better choice for PS3 because it's specifically designed for PS3s and has Sony's backing (though I've yet to find out exactly what that means).

Will let y'all know how it goes.

anyone knows how to automount drivers at startup in Ubuntu? right now, they are not mounted, so i have to open them to mount it automatically. but i want this done at startup.
/etc/fstab

Easiest way is to peek at the output of "mount" when the drive is mounted and then use that to write a line in fstab to mount it automatically on boot.

On the contrary, everyone buys Windows. When you buy your next computer it will come with Windows and $100 of the price is mailed to Redmond. And you can't say "no thanks, I have an OS", they won't let you.
I bought a new HP laptop with preinstalled Vista last week, but not only that, they threw in a XP install disc without me even knowing.
I didn't get vlatko's
Really? Meaning, *unix is so stable, you never have to reboot because of BSOD or whatever.

Not really since I can't take it home, it's for work. I just installed everything and made it functional and don't use it for anything other than surfing and work stuff.

Though it has pretty good specs for a work PC, Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, Radeon HD3430 and a really nice 17'' screen.

That works. But why is he wearing a Ghostbusters shirt? Seems like a bad hack.

I have nothing against the nerds. In fact, in high school, I was one of the cool kids that sometimes associated with the nerds. :p
