I definitely had my best day ever as a college student. I was one of the first to pass the Fortran quiz (apparently 4 out of 14 didn't). But, even better, I received a handshake from my corporate finance professor in front of the class because I was the only person to do what he asked on a financial report for some company.

Fortran and Linux really does turn you into a nerd. Don't even need a subroutine. :smoke:

How is KDE4 coming along? It's been a long time since I tried a new distro. Last one was suSe 11 with KDE4 and it was straight out dreadful.

Nothing particularly interesting since last time. I'm keeping an eye on it, though.

Ubuntu is switching to KDE4 now (so far they've only had unsupported experimental packages):

I guess KDE kinda oversold KDE4. It doesn't work like the commercial world where someone makes an announcement to deliver by a certain day, then they scramble to finish, cut most of what they promised to get it done, still ship late, and everyone's disappointed. In other words, that's not what you should expect, a big release on a particular day.

KDE3 wasn't even that great at first, I started using it around kde 3.3/3.4. It's the gradual, incremental improvements that really make a huge difference. With KDE4 they've laid the ground work, but lots and lots of work is left to improve the apps, the usability. The whole experience just won't be good until the little problems are gone. KDE4 might kick ass, in 6 months or a year.

So in other words...KDE4 is like Vista? Sleek on the outside but horrible from the inside. :p

I think I'm gonna give suSe another go, maybe KDE 4.1 is better. One thing is sure, KDE4 looks REAL nice. They just need more big distro's switching to it, Kubuntu is gonna do a world of good I reckon. Might even try the beta.

Why try the beta? The new release is comign out soon I think. I am making a switch to KDE4 with the new Kubuntu release.
