i just installed LinuxMint! it looks sweet! almost all distro's seem to have a problem with Opera! crashes all the time. LM's based on Kubuntu.

anyone tried LinuxMCE? im curious after the demo video i saw of it!

Well maybe thats your problem right there, why don't you try it on other distros ?

Ok here is something to keep this thread going..

I am currently using a 7 years old Compaq presario 6000 desktop. 2.4 GHz pentium 4, 512 MB RAM. Its aging and I feel its time to upgrade. Ofcourse some of you might think why the hell haven't I moved on/up till now. The answer is simple, this PC has been working phenominally well and was worth every single penny I've put in it. Since purchase not a single upgrade was done (except for a USB wireless access point and a webcam).

I've tried working on PCs with windows vista on them, and I felt its just slower than my 7 years old XP. The computers ithemelves were fast, but the Vista slowed them down pretty well. Then I went to the apply shop where I fiddled around with the iMAC. It was amazingly fast. The one I worked on had both Tiger and windows XP on.

MAC has been developing quite well, and although I was a windows fan (for flexibiltiy) the MACs stability is something beyound anyones ignorance, let alone the new Leopard OS is amazing.

Do you think its wise to get an iMAC with both Leopard and XP rather than getting a windows based PC?

MAC is ridiculously overpriced. Get a good Linux distro (I prefer Ubuntu, but you could also try PC LInux OS). Trust me, you'll never look back.

I am on Linux Mint and Opera works pretty well along with Flash plugin.

did u install flash plugin once again? i'm just using the pre-installed plugin and not installed Flash again separately!

You know what's one of the most irritating things in linux for me? That sound(glass breaking) that's played in KDE whenever you get an error of somesort.

Whoever came up with that one should be shot in the head. The other day I almost died because I had my headphones on and the volume turned up.

I don't mind sound notifications, as long as they are mild and not too loud, I don't mind the ones on Windows at all for example. But this particular one in KDE is horrible.

I keep startup and shut down alerts.
