Sounds useful, I don't run gnome tho. Tend to write my own scripts when I need them.
Fair enough... freaking useful for the relative Linux layman though ;)
Don't you just love it when companies decide what "easy to use" means?
Bastards :groan:
though my suggestion would be backing up everything, reformatting the drive and doing things properly. :D meaning giving XP 10-15gb and leave the rest to linux. key thing is installing XP first than ubuntu later, ubuntu will easily recognize XP and set up GRUB properly.
Yep, I did it that way. Cheers fellas ;)

There are few things that make me feel more refreshed than reformatting my machine :eyebrows:

hey fellas has anyone tried out NTFS-3g ? how does it work and more importantly is it 100% safe? this is huge for me as it would allow me to write on my 250gb NTFS drive in linux as well.

OP

/usr/bin

Yup, I've had it installed.. Works like a charm.. Though I'm not sure how stable it is, it does its job..

Check out the ubuforums for a howto on a very quick and easy setup.. ;)

Well, here's a yardstick for ya.. It hasn't been officially implemented into the major distribution (ubuntu), so it aint stable.. wouldn't suggest installing it if you want assurances :p

i think that's how it's gonna be, no hurry, it can't take too long to hit stable, can it? if it's gonna be stable with feisty that will do for me.

Why don't you just put ur music on Fat32 and use it on both platforms?
because i don't have anywhere to put those 200gb of data while i convert the partition. and there's no chance in hell i'm gonna do something like converting a file system while all that data is there.

I want to be able to write on my NTFS external but I skipped the NTFS-3g and I am waiting for better economy to nail a new external, backup on it, format the NTFS to ext3 and live happily ever after.

I don't have a swap partition on my hard drive, but I want to create one now. Can someone please explain how I'd do that without having to format my drive?
