Anybody tried Mac OSX (Leopard) on PC? iATKOS, to be concrete.
Yes, I've tried a couple of the OSx86 builds, but it wasn't worth the hassle. Apple supports a narrow spectrum of devices and they only provide drivers for those, so a PC user is typically stuck having his video card and network card unsupported. Which is really lame.

I never envisioned actually using it long term, only wanted to check it out.

Is it at least better situation than with Ubuntu. I've tried Ubuntu and uninstalled it because of the same problem, ATI Radeon driver.

Video drivers are indeed the bane of our existence. I read today that 30% of Windows crashes are caused by the Nvidia driver.

The situation in Ubuntu is currently not half bad, and certainly much better than it ever has been. For instance I have a Radeon Mobility X1300 that at long last seems to be working correctly in every way.

But the driver problem is universal, so whatever the operating system you will struggle with this from time to time.

For the record, with my ATI on OSx86 all I could ever get was a dead slow and unaccelerated vesa driver.

Also for the record, with my ATI Radeon 9250 (3 years old) on Ubuntu I couldn't have more than 1280x800 on my 1440x900 monitor, and I had to edit some config files to get boot screen.
My plan is to buy E4500, 2GB RAM and some motherboard with Intel GMA 950 - that's better hardware than Mini Mac has! I mean, you never know, maybe Leopard will run good, maybe I'll experience some failures like some people did...

Well I did that myself. My new laptop has a Intel chipset and video card. I thought that would solve the problem once and for all. But it turns out that the video driver issue is so torrid that no matter what card you have you'll have some amount of trouble.

Intel is generally recommended for Linux though. And Nvidia over Ati anytime.

I'm gonna do a fresh install, didn't try out the last two or three Ubuntu's. Wondering what this new one is like.

BTW, what happened with Automatix? How does one get all the multimedia goodies with one click now? :p

Automatix is no more. And that is a good thing, because it used to be dangerous and break a lot of things down the line when you wanted to upgrade. The reason it doesn't exist is because most if not all the goodies that were offered exclusively by Automatix (and that Ubuntu turned their noses up at) are now in Ubuntu itself. So the multimedia codecs aren't a problem anymore. Things like skype and google earth probably aren't in the repo, though.

I did the upgrade via Update Manager and so far it's looking very clean. No problems underway and afterwards it still runs fine. Haven't gotten around to checking a few issues I suspect could be broken, but on the whole if there are bugs the coming weeks will turn them up.

I think they did a pretty good job, IMO this is the fastest Ubuntu to date, boots up in a flash.

And best of all, my ATI card works like a charm after installing propriatery drivers! :toast:
