The Maltese foreign ministry says Libya has now demanded that Malta return the two Libyan fighter jets that landed there after their pilots refused to bomb protesters and defected.

I read that there are some Serbian mercenaries fighting in Libya. Did you guys hear anything about it?

I found this article (I'll only translate some parts of the text):

Serbian "Dogs of War" are protecting Gaddafi
The Serbs are the first foreign mercenaries that arrived in Libya. Tens of Serbian mercenaries are at this moment on the streets of the Libyan cities fighting on the side of the troupes faithful to Gaddafi - reports the Belgrade media.

As "Alo" finds out, the serbian mercenaries are getting tens of thousands (dollars) for this job and they go to Libya from the other African countries where they are working for years already as "dogs of war". The mercenaries arrive from Serbia too, but they go through the Bosnian and Croatian agencies.
"The Serbian legionaries" are consisted of war veterans from the ex-Yu war. Apart from the former members of army and police units, the majority of these forces are consisted of members of the former "red berets", that spread through out the world after the unit has been disbanded in 2003. They worked in Africa as security to many presidents, like, for example, the former Zaire leader Mobutu Sese Seko, and many other politicians. They also worked as instructors to some African soldiers.
In the first round, apart from the Serbs, in Libya arrived mercenaries from other African countries. As our informer says, the Serbian mercenaries were called immediately because they are famous as great and experienced soldiers.

    - Gaddafi pays them everything they ask. Their prices reach tens of thousands dollars or euro. Many of them already had very well paid jobs in some African countries but this was an offer they couldn't refuse. Before the start of the Libyan demonstrations the Serbs in Africa were immediately contacted by the Libyans and they accepted the offer. Gaddafi has huge trust in the Serbian soldiers who've been training African armies for years now.

In Libya, apart from the Serbs, there are also soldiers from Russia and some other ex-Soviet republics, to protect Gaddafi. These men are showing no mercy to the demonstrators. As some witnesses say, the Russians and the other "white mercenaries" are helped by "black mercenaries" too, who speak French and they are probably from Tchad and Darfour.

Did anyone see Abdel Rahman Shalgam's speech in the UN? Amazing, it got some of the represenatives of other countries in tears, and they all came and hugged him in the end. It was very emotional

Libyan state television said the government is to raise wages, increase food subsidies and order special allowances for all families, in a belated attempt win back public support for the regime.

Under the proposals each family will receive 500 Libyan dinars (£250) to help cover increased food costs, and wages for some categories of public sector workers will increase by 150 percent, the television station said.
