I think he'll step up and do well.

He was good at Bari and in the first half of last season.

Granted, he's been poor in the pre-season but I think that once he'll re-gain his confidence, he'll be decent.
Potentially good. Right now, I think that (confidence) is preventing him most, then other details of his game need to be adjusted.

It would be a very clumsy backline with Chiello and Sorensen but at least it'll be somewhat secure compared to having Bonucci out there.

I'd like to see him come good though, he's got some very good traits as a defender.

I'd start Sorensen next season next to Chiellini.
I rate Sorensen more than anyone on the forum, probably, but I'd be very hesitant to do this. At least right now.

Sorensen, unless he's turned into a psychopath over the summer, is quite prone to nerve-related errors. And that's at fullback with less direct pressure on him. Granted, he did exceptionally well, taming Eto'o amongst others, but CB will be a different story. Consider also Conte breathing down his neck, the immense expectations to do well on the back of the last two seasons and so forth, plus his lack of playtime there for us to begin with. It's a recipe for disaster - another Criscito story, possibly. Knowing Marotta, he'd probably scapegoat him in January.

It'd be better to integrate him over the next six months (not that we have the leeway to really afford this, anyway), but this presents problems of meshing with Chiellini. Ideally, he'd have been partnered at CB for the entire pre-season to get acclimated. Too late now, I guess.

For now, like it or not, but Barzagli is probably the safest bet we have.

He's not, but his mind seems to drift away sometimes :/ His marking lacks any determination.. He needs to improve many areas of his defending. I think he knows that he has till January to prove himself before we go all out for a CB.

It's unfair to rate Bonucci same as Motta. Regardless of the average season he had though he played some excellent games (Milan, SanSiro), the guy has some time to develop and become a decent defender. With Lich. on his side he will feel more comfortable, and if he improves his one-on-one challenges by the mid season he can become a good CB.
