Lampard is the best center midfielder in Europe.
Kaka, Iniesta, Fabregas, Xabi Alonso, Gerrard, Pirlo, Rino, De Rossi, Ballack, Lucho Gonzalez, Viera, Mikael Essien will all beg to differ.

I am no fan of Lampard, for 8m I will take him in a heart-beat. Heck, that Watford kid cost more than 8m.

Ballack is not playing well. Pilro is kind of okay at the moment, though nothing like his old performances. all of those players are good, but the most that stand out right now are Fabregas, Iniesta and Essien (I Would also add Paul Scholes). Kaka Is not really a CM so he does not belong on that list.

I wish we could get Fabregas :)

As Denco pointed out, I do not really regard Frank Lampard as a player who can considered as all rounder. He is very energetic sure, but he doesn't quite have all the attributes to become a solid center mid. That is precisely the reason why IMO, Eriksson played Owen Hargreaves to just sit back in front of defence.

Lampard, IMO, is probably at his best when he plays behind the striker. He isnt traditional trequarsista in Veron, Rui Costa, Zizou moulds, but he bring different characteristics and he is at most efficient shooting at opposition goals. That means he is probably more direct competitor to Ronaldinho's, Messi, Kaka's world than say Gerrard's, Essiens, Alonso's. No disrespect to Lampard, but no sane manager will take him over the players I have aforementioned. He hasn't got the "it" factor to become the best player in the team.

BTW, on Fabregas I absolutely agree. The boy oozes with class. He reminds me of Albertini Deluxe - truly elegant to watch.

he scores a ton of goals. Last time I checked goals win you matches, and winning matches wins you titles. Plus the guy has an amazing work rate.
he is just a lucky one surrounded by star players, without them he is nothing. 8m for such a player is a good deal. but wake up guys, he would never join us the chance is like you ask Dp to change his jersy

I agree with most your points. Lampard isn't really as good as the others, but the reason he really shines is because he has Makalele and Essien to protect his back. If we can employ a Midfilder with Half the skill of Makalele, we could see Lampard shine truly. I would not take Lampard over any of those players (maybe Xabi though) but for 8 Million? Sure, since any of those players will cost us atleast 20 million. The key here though is to have a player that can cover for Lampard, and I don't really think Zanetti can do that well enough.

I don't want to analyse the playing style of the players that you've just mentioned but I'll try briefly. By the way, I don't mean that he is the best but I mean more that his style will suit us in this period very much.

1) Kaka and Pirlo don't do much efforts in defending.
2) Xabi Alonso don't play directly behind the strikers besides being slow, he is a great shooter and passer as well though.
3) Gerrard's defending role isn't clear, Lampard is tougher.
4) De Rossi is the best Italian talent during year 2006. Even though, we can't depend on him as a center midfielder, his creativity is low besides being slow as well. I prefer him to be a defensive midfielder though,
5) Vieira is past his best and he can't suit us now, simply, because he is one of the traitors.
6) Ballack is a bug in Chelsea's midfield now.
7) The only one that I prefer to Lampard is the dark beast aka Essien. He is the best defensive midfielder in Europe alongside Gattuso, in my opinion. What is more , he is drastically quick without the ball, he attacks well and I'm pretty sure that he can play role on pitch except being a keeper.

Ballack is not playing well. Pilro is kind of okay at the moment, though nothing like his old performances. all of those players are good, but the most that stand out right now are Fabregas, Iniesta and Essien (I Would also add Paul Scholes). I do prefer Fabregas as well. However, he isn't that fighter and he lacks the experience that we do need urgently in our midfield.

Fabregas is solid and can hold his own. He isn't a fighter because that role is given to Gilberto, otherwise you'd see that Fabregas is good even when he is defending. In the case of Fabregas experience isn't really necessary since the guy is already carrying the Arsenal midfield on his own at the age of 19 with no problems. plus he's the player with the highest assists in Arsenal I believe.

Okay, I have another idea. What about buying Lampard, Fabregas and Essien? :D

If we suppose that both players (Lampard and Fabregas) are equal in nearly everything. So let's look at it from another view; the financial one I mean. Arsenal will never let Fabregas go in the next few years at least and he is also expensive, but Lampard according to Fifa's new law, which I posted in the previous page in the news, can join us with just £8m.

The most important now is to take into consideration the realistic point of view; can we land this player or that one in the summer or no?. Nevertheless, I think that we won't sign anyone of them. :smoke:

Fabregas is no. Lampard is possible provided these conditions are met:

A) We can afford his wage demands
B) other clubs that are interested in him and are in CL spots (Milan, Madrid) f*** off.
C) we can actually sign a player with half the skill of Makalele so that Lampard can really shine.

1) Yes, we can afford his wage demands and more.
2) It depends on him more, if he is interested to wear the Bianconeri shirt or not. Lampard will be 29 in the summer and to sacrifice playing in the champions league just for one season isn't a big deal.
3) Cristiano Zanetti is good and we can take Blasi back from Fiorentina plus buying Frings.

I'v esaid it before and I'll say it again, we don't need players who are 50 yearls old and should be spending time in a retirement house instead of a football pitch. Old man Emerson is a NO.

but he would fit in perfectly in the retirement home AC Milan) with the rest of the old men like Maldini and Costacruta :D

He can't even play for Milan. If I were Ancelotti, I'd buy him to do all the cleaning stuff in the club.
