Way too passive tonight, very mixed performance from him, goes from a moment of brilliance to one of liability way too often, needs to be more calm and balanced and he will eventually turn into a real beast.

He won a few balls, imposed himself physically for most parts and combined well at times… but on the other hand he did have moments of being complete garbage which largely outweighed the good ones he had.

Maybe it has something to do with Tudor telling him to drop deep, but he (and Loca/Koop) provides no protection in front of defense. We are letting opponents shoot too much near the penalty arc. The first and second goal as well as Çalhanoğlu's brace all come from that area. And there were many other attempts.

But you make a very good point. Kovac was smart, he told the front 3 to stay close in front of our defence. They combined well and almost destroyed us.
That's 2 poor games in a row now.
The Inter game being less obvious because of the goal he scored, but his general play wasn't any good in that game either.
Its not about rest. I think this assignment last 2 games of being told to play and sit so deep doesn't suit him. He seems awkward and rushed from that static play. Both offensively and defensively.
He needs to be more b2b combining plenty with others. Not holding DM. Our central midfield is disorganised.
Its not as easy as easy as last season tho, because besides Kenan being more central AM who drops back now, not as much options to combine with. Last season Motta made it easier for the CMs by having Cambiaso as an inverted wingback that was almost like the CM playmaker. Gave Khepren more freedom to be b2b.
Too small of a simple size to really draw any clear conclusions but there’s no doubt he is our most key midfielder, even when it’s not his day he’s still better and more crucial in his role than all the other alternatives.
Tutor is going to run him into the ground since he's basically playing as a single pivot midfielder especially when Koopmeiners is on the pitch. Thuram is the only player who can play double pivot, so why are we using a system that doesn't suit our players?
