This is a stupid argument because being a Rossonero, Incubo will never accept that Del Piero merits a place in the squadra more than Inzaghi does, although it's very true. You say that Inzaghi's job is to score, and that's a fair comment, but if you were Trap wouldn't you rather have someone who can create as well as score? ie. Del Piero, not Inzaghi.

When you say that DP has never delivered for the NT, you tell a humongous lie. 1998 to 2000, Alex was a big flop, no doubt, but you can't deny that he was a great help in the WC qualifiers, in the WC and in the Euro2004 qualifiers. An on form Pippo is a great asset, no question about that, but a greater asset than an on form Alessandro Del Piero? I think not.

The problem is that you are treating Del Piero like a Delvecchio...i.e. Hey if he delivers its a bonus. No ..the way he is shoved down our throats he should be contributing on the same level men like Bruno Conti and Roberto Baggio have. The other thing is if your trying to state your case that Del Piero deserves a spot over Inzaghi then A) Your not an Azzuri fan but a Juve fan..pure and simple....if Del Piero was a creating and scoring machine on the NT I would lock Pippo in Milanello so long as Italy wins. Secondly, if Pippo does not make the trip (which is very unlikely) it will not be because DP did...it will because another pure STRIKER "centro-avanto puro" has...
The problem is that some of you are making this arguement as a Del Piero fan rather than Azzurri supporter and like I staded before...doing this you will bring DP or any other Juve player regardless of how good another player is playing.

I need to ask a question, and I would appreciate honest answers.

How many of the people here, excluding myself, IceBlu, Incubo, and Vinman, are supporters of the italian National Team? I'm talking the type of supporter who follows the team whether there are 10 Juve players on the squad or none.

Is this anti-inzaghi sentiment due to the fact that he is a former Juve player who now plays for Milan, or do you all think that he truly doesn't deserve to be on the team, despite the fact that he nearly singlehandedly carried this team into the final round of Euro 2004.

If it's the former, then you are letting your feeling towards him as a Milanista cloud your judgement, and when you are judging players on a National team level, that isn't the right way to go about it. Look at Camoranesi for crying out loud. If Juve ever decides to sell him, I'll pick him up and drive him to the airport myself, but he is an invaluable member of the national team, and he plays like it.

If it's the latter, then you aren't watching enough NT games, because he has been our best player since he's rejoined the squad.

Don't let Pippo's EVIL :p black and red colors hide the fact that he has been fantastic for Italy since his arrival, and as long as he is wearing the Azzurri, I will support him 100%, provided that he merits a place on the team, which right now he most certainly does.

Incubo, I must agree with you on this one.

I support the Italian NT. In Fact, I started watching Juve and serie A because i like the Italian NT.

Anyhow, I've always liked (and defended Pippo) when he was at Juve. When he moved to Milan he has let go of Juve so easily. he has no feeling for his former club. My evidence is his when you see him celebrating his goals vs. Juve. he doesn't hold back at all.

and this bothers me. so i guess i dont think of him as a player i like (or hate either), but this doesn't change the fact that he's a good player. i'll never stop defending him in arguments.

I think he's Great for the national team. every team needs a player like him. (only one :D ).
For the National team's attack, i would chose: Del Piero, Vieri, Di Vaio, Cassano(if he behaves...otherwise Miccoli), and Inzaghi.

When it comes to the National teams, you have to look at the benifit of the team. For Example, many people want Tacchi in the NT. I think he may be good, but since Perrotta and C. Zanetti are doing so well with the 4-2-3-1, i dont see why Tacchi should take any of their places.

serge, im an azzurri fan  and no need to explain how much i love pippo inzaghi.

of course inzaghi is not exactly on fire at club stages, he was injured, but screw injury, like i said, had it not been for him we wouldn't have topped our group, he has scored goals recently for the azzurri (before his injury) and if that doesn't earn him a starting spot in the squad, then i do not know what is.

im all for pippo inzaghi to start in the squad!

but italy is not doing so well with them in 4-2-3-1. if italy called up all it's best talents we would never have to worry wether italy'll go straight to finals or through play-offs. italy is full of potential. with the likes of pippo, zanetti and perrotta it's still a major threat to all other nts. but this team could be better. i am very sure that gattuso and tacchi would do ch better then those who are playing now. and di vaio would be more useful than pippo.
i dissagree with ian that 5 forwards are not needed in tournament like euro2004. with i njuries and suspensions we need 5 attackers since totti should play in midfield. and if italy plays 4-2-3-1, di vaio and del piero should play alongside totti behind vieri. i am not saying that inzaghi should not go to portugal. probably he should. but while vieri and the rest are available they should start ahead of inzaghi.

But Fli, Italy has had their most recent success due to playing a 4-3-1-2, with Totti supporting Vieri and Inzaghi.
i think that their most recent success was euro2000.

as i said, imo best formation for italy would be 4-2-3-1
