Sam Allardyce accusing Gianluigi Buffon of assault

Allardyce likened Buffon's first-half headlong charge from goal and subsequent collision with the teenage substitute Andy Carroll to that of the notorious Harald Schumacher challenge on Patrick Battiston in the 1982 World Cup. "Andy's very lucky he's not in hospital," said Allardyce of the clash that happened shortly after Carroll had doubled the lead with virtually his first touch on 36 minutes. "It was like that with Schumacher all those years ago, more like common assault." So much so the Newcastle manager felt compelled to charge down from the stands to remonstrate with the referee Mark Clattenburg.

Carroll no doubt expected to see stars of a different kind facing Juventus but the the young Geordie showed great resolve to rise groggily to his feet and continue. Claudio Ranieri, the Juventus manager, saw the 39th-minute incident differently, strongly defending his goalkeeper. He said: "He's a gentleman 100%, it was an accident as he was going for the ball."

Because Iaquinta isn't worth the amount we payed for him.
amen
for the money we spent on him we couldve signed rossi(a better player plus he has 6 months with ranieri) or bianchi but the fact remains he finds a way to score..his performances may have sucked so far cuz hes never been under this sort of pressure to perform well before
but all in all comapred to how inter got chivu and roma got juan and west ham gettin ljunberg or lyon getting grosso or even barca getting henry i just feel that most of our transfers were not evaluated well enough in terms of money except andrade

Here is how Buffon tackled Carroll:

And here is how Schumacher kicked the other guy on 1982:

I think it was a weird thing from Buffon.

Okay, but don't come here and talk nonsense about players you've probably never even seen before today. I doubt you've payed attention to Almiron before and I know for a fact you didn't watch Tiago at Lyon, so just shut up. Stop talking shit about players you've never even seen, football novice.

You spend your professional life on these forums as well, so what does that make you? Only a telemarketer spends his life at a computer all day at work. So what's worse... being in college and enjoying a day out on the deck with your computer and a Corona, or being a 35 year-old telemarketer making $35,000 a year? Get a real job. Worthless.

And spell fucking Newcastle correctly.
You seem very angry for someone happy with their lot.

Yesterday was not good, did not look good, or bode good.

I have had grave misgivings over the last few weeks, and I fear that they may, alas, be justified.

Corona is not a real drink; it's like water.

He might have sucked this match, but give me a break... it was his first real friendly. And stand by Tiago because he's always been a damn good player and very respectable professional. After hearing your opinions on Cannavaro, perhaps I think you don't care about respect.
You say Tiago does everything well. I think he does everything. I choose to leave out the well because he does everything to a degree but only few things to a really high standard. Being so well-rounded is what makes him a good solid midfield player but he doesn't tackle as well as Zanetti or Nocerino or pass as well as Almiron so in the end what's the point of being able to do everything decently when imo we need a specialist. Tiago was great at Lyon because he had Diarra, someone great at the defending aspect of a midfielder, and Juninho, someone great at the attacking aspect of a midfielder, playing next to him.

As for that thing about respect, cheaters don't really deserve it which is why I stand by Cannavaro.

Well said stu. Tiago without a doubt is a talented player, but he has no definite specialty. Lets just hope CR brings the best out of him or opts to follow lyons attacking style of play.

Bullshit. But that doesn't mean what Buffon did was right. He shouldn't have done it anyway, because Carroll had already tackled and was never going to be able to get to the bal again anyway. However, Carrol did come in with a harsh tackle as well and IMO Buffon couldn't go for the ball without hurting himself. Jumping up was about the wisest thing he could have done.

It was just an accident, he came out to get the ball and didn't get it, players collided and even better saved a goal for us, nothing malicious in it at all.
Big Same should get shot for making such comments.

So much of Italian League being the best in the world and Italian teams being superior to English ones as Tonykart thinks.

A lot of you seem to forget there was a lot of good in this game, especially in the first half where we were the better side, just a little unlucky. Our midfield showed a very good passing game with some nice one-touch football and it can only get better when Tiago and Almiro click. New signings Almiron and Andrade had a good game, Iaquinta and Tiago didn't but there's a lot of time ahead. The team is still getting to know each other and Ranieri is still finding his prefered 11, not to mention we are still working on our fitness. We WILL improve.

Buffon’s case for defence
Monday 30 July, 2007

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon has refused to blame a lack of cohesion in defence for the Bianconeri’s friendly defeat against Newcastle.

The Old Lady were beaten 2-0 at St James’ Park despite dominating long periods of the game and creating a host of chances.

While some critics have pointed fingers at the Cadetti champions’ new-look defence, Buffon doesn’t seem worried by the teething problems.

“People say the defence doesn’t work, but you have to judge the team as a unit,” he insisted. “The back four played well, they just need a little time to gel.”

The Azzurri custodian has struggled with minor injury worries this summer, but appears to have returned to full fitness and seemed pleased with his own performance.

“I’m feeling good and the work done in Pinzolo has paid off,” he continued. “Today I managed to make three important saves.

“The game didn’t go so badly and it’s important to play sides who are more prepared at this stage.”

The thing is i think we're playing much more attractive football with beautiful passing but are ineffective doing so . We used to be the complete opposite playing unattractive football but getting the result in the in end .

Juve's main problem is in the defense , I think andrade is a great signing but he needs someone to partner him . In the midfield , i think juve are going to play Tiago/Amiron a little more . They are the complete opposites to vieira / emerson partnership 2 years back . Vieira/Emerson are mainlty defensive players that are good at breaking the opposition's attacks while Tiago /Almiron are better and keeping possesion and distributing creative passes to the attack .

I love this attacking juve , but it won't work without another quality cb .

You're saying we're ineffective after just one game? We created lots of good chances yesterday but we were unlucky, that's the bottom line. Yes this is a different Juve, complete opposite from last season like you said, but who says it can't work? What I saw yesterday in the first half put a smile on my face. I was really enjoying our midfield, especialy Almiron who reminds of Veron and Marchionni was very dangerous playing on the left side and cutting inside the middle. Tiago will start playing I'm certain and I don't see the point in criticising him yet.

I do agree we need another quality CB to partner Andrade though.
