Well then by that statement you shouldn't have said that this current team is better until this season is over. And I'm not speaking as if I've seen this current squad play, I'm talking about on paper. Explain to me how this squad is better on paper.
for one theres more creativity and pace to our midfield especially with the accquisition of almiron, ferrara and montero were comming to their end by 2003, i have alot of faith in andrade who is already undoubtedly a good defender, and criscito is a dark horse who i believe will forget all talk of barzagli's potential.
our full backs are probably better now than back in 2003 in respective to zebina and chiellini, thuram just didnt cut it for me at rb

That's true however, EPL is a lot harder than Serie A, EPL is one of the hardest leagues in the world. Which is why Boumsong struggled, when he was in the SPL in Scotland, he was a good player - which is why we originally signed him.

He'll play well in Serie A. :agree:
ive never understood how the epl can be a harder league yet its the italian league thats known for its defending, so in what respect is the epl actually hard? hard for english players to develop and play well due to the mass foreign influences?

More creativity and pace in midfield, yeah, I can agree with that, but what about quality? Nedved was the best player in the world in 2003 and no one in our current group of midfielders comes close to him at that time. Camo is about the same now as he was then and I don't see Almiron and Tiago being as effective as Tacchinardi and Davids.

Thuram was great at RB in 02/03, much better than Zebina, and Chiellini is overrated at left back. He does his best work in the air. Ferrara and Montero were old but still reliable for the most part. No way is a partnership of Andrade and Criscito superior, especially not on paper when Andrade has been injured for so long and Criscito is so inexperienced.

We were basically the best team in the world with the best player in the world (Nedved) in 2003. I don't see how you can say this current team is good.

Nice counter argument btw. "I don't know how good the team is, for all I know they could be magnificent."
Here is a way to look at it:

BUFFON - BUFFON

CANNAVARO - ANDRADE
THURAM - GRYGERA
ZEBINA - ZEBINA
ZAMBROTTA - CHIELLINI

VIERA - ALMIRON
EMERSON - TIAGO

CAMORANESI - CAMORANESI
NEDVED - NEDVED

IBRAHIMOVIC - DEL PIERO
TREZEGUET - TREZEGUET

We were a much better team in 2005 even. I don't know why people think we are going to be so awesome. Every player we picked up is good, but we used to pick up players who were great. I just hope we qualify for CL so we can get Ranieri out of here, bring back Lippi and go to the next level.

The EPL is a lot harder due to the quality of players in the league.

You could ask any football commentator or pundit who watches both leagues, EPL is the hardest league in the world.

Harder in what sense? Yes it is physically harder but how can it be mentally harder? The fans in England and by and large the press is more lenient than in Italy. if in England, matches are only played on weekends then even the physical part would not even come into play. But they ahve decided to take Sky's money, being very competitive in the transfer market so they cannot complain about being asked to play x amount of matches in y amout of time. The marking and organisation in seriea is far harder to penetrate through. Epl Is a striker's dream, i think its only in midfield that you could really see the effects of how physically strong the Epl is. And of cos, so many referees overllok things which are deemed fouls in Europe. But to say Boumsong would find it easier in Italy is most uninformed of serieA and how good the strikers are there

Over the Christmas period, EPL have about 5 games in 10 days.

Defending in the EPL is one of the hardest jobs possible. The quality of players in the EPL is unbelieveable. You have to be a fantastic defender to play in the EPL and get GOOD press.

Mentally it's challenging due to the fact you are just about to play Man United, infront of 78,000 supporters, Ronaldo, Rooney, Giggs all wanting to crush your team. It's hard. You make one mistake and you're all over the papers for being a flop.

Name me any football pundit who watches both leagues. stop being fooled by the crap being fed by sky commentators. There is nothing more irritating to my ears than to hear best league in the world. Best league in the world? In the past 15 years, only 2 teams have won Cl and in both instances, they were both outplayed to a point of embarassment. There has been an all spanish and an all Italian final. We are yet to see an all English 1. SerieA last season is the worst it has been in living memory but still came out with an Italian club lifting the Cl. Quality? Please how many EPl players actually shine in major competitions? It easy to look like pure quality if you have to face the likes of watford, sheffield united, wet ham, wigan, everton, fulham, aston villa, charlton , newcastle and so many others . Just thank your lucky stars for SKY as they put up a brilliant package

You think playing Man Utd is any different to playing Milan?

And the strikers in Italy are better than those in England, not to mention the creativity.

Definitely. The English media do a great job of overrating their league.

That is pure nonsense. The Serie A is the best league in the world. I think it was close to being the best even last year. The media is totally biased to the EPL, never take what they say to heart. I think you really need to step back a bit and re-analyze things. That is silly. La Liga is better than the Premiership.

So how did those boys cope when they had to play against 60,000 screaming fans at Milan, thats right, they lost 3-0. The quality of players in serieA and la liga is far higher. it is just in Italy they do not see the need most of the time to keep on attacking you, unlike in England. in Italy a 5-0 scoreline is frowned upon, in england its encouraged. You have to be a fantastic defender anywhere to have good press

La Liga was the best league last season, followed by the Premiership. Serie A was poor last season but that was to be expected given the circumstances.

Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea. Whereas your top four [according to position last year] are Inter, Roma, Lazio and AC Milan. I know exactly who i'd rather be facing each week.

Considering, Palermo who finished 5th in Serie A couldn't beat a very week Newcastle side with our third choice keeper in goal (we won 1-0)... And we finished 14th in the EPL. It just tells you the difference.

According to the international federation of football history and statistics, only Brazil and Spain have a harder league than the Premiership.

Excellent post. Even the lower ranked teams in Italy are tough because of the way they play tactically sound football. All they do in England is back the ball forward and play defense totally inproperly. Look how badly Milan tangled up the Man U and Liverpool defense. EPL the best... what a joke.

I'm not taking that point away, Milan are a good team. Roma who finished 2nd in Serie A got slaughtered by Manchester United.

Milan are the only Italian team who would perform top 5 standard in the EPL.
