Miguel had a good Euro 2004 for Portugal and seems to be a good right back, surely better than Zebina. I have not seen him play that much for Benfica so I'm not sure how good he is at the club level.

Portuguese full-back Miguel has announced that Juventus are keen to sign him.

The Benfica stopper, who played an integral part in their march to the Portuguese title under Giovanni Trapattoni, is thought to be seen by the Old Lady as a natural successor to Lilian Thuram.

“I know that Juventus has tried for me,” he stated. "I know that they've had scouts come here to follow me. But, for now, there is nothing concrete. However, I do wish to play in Italy.”

The news will come as a blow to Champions’ League holders Liverpool, who were also keen on the international. Another factor in the Bianconeri’s favour is that, in a curious coincidence, Miguel’s agent is former Juve player Manuel Dimas.

Miguel as a CB? Alarm bells..

Just to recap, I cant remember. Was it him who scored that great goal at the euro 2004, or Maniche?

thank you. I remember that goal espacially because the German TV messed up the camera; the goal was only shown in the highlights after the match because the reply guy was looking somewhere else!

Out of curiosity, was anyone else watching the match broadcast that missed Maniche's goal?

I think they were replaying a previous incident when suddenly the commentator shouts "What a fantastic goal!", and they showed the replay of it...

I remember only seeing the goal in the fulltime highlights though, but I could be wrong.

That was Maniche's fantastic deep kick to the corner of the goal against the Netherlands.

Miguel? I follow enough of the Portuguese Superliga during the season, and I think he is a solid player capable of production on both ends of the pitch. If he can culturally fit in the squad, he might be a great acquisition (as I mentioned before, perhaps with Emerson at the back he may fit in better with their shared, albeit different dialect, Portuguese).

But CB? I agree with the question marks, though I wouldn't quite go so far as alarm bells. It would be a position shift for him, and we've seen how that benefitted Thuram this season going in the other direction. Furthermore, Miguel has a good ability to press forward past upfield midfielders, and his passing, crossing, and even shooting capabilities aren't too shabby. They'd be wasted with him at CB.

Doesn't anyone else hate it, when someone answers a question, which has already been answered with the same answer before..

Miguel at Juve would be great. 100x better than Birindelli and 50x better than Zebina. :D

I think for 10m € Benfica would sell him to us.

Juve’s Approach For Miguel Rejected – Report
6/16/2005 8:02:00 PM
Benfica refused a 7 million offer from the Bianconeri for their full-back.
According to Portuguese newspaper reports, Benfica have refused a 7 million offer by Juventus for the services of Miguel.

The Portuguese champions consider the offer as inadequate and insufficient, and they are therefore expecting a higher bid. Milan are also rumoured to be after the young defender.
