Juve future bright for Buffon
Tuesday, 06 April 2004
Juventus FC goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has signed a new deal with the Italian champions. The Italian international has accepted a pay cut in order to extend his contract, which was due to expire in 2006, by two years until 2008.
'Right example'
"Several of my team-mates have done the same thing," he said. "I believe this is the right example for Italian football in this period of financial crisis. Juventus are one of the most solid clubs in the world and I decided to extend my contract because I'm sure we have a bright future in front of us."
Third season
The 26-year-old custodian is in his third term with the Turin club, having joined from Parma AC in 2001. He won the Scudetto in each of his first two seasons with the Bianconeri and helped the team reach the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League final.
Contract extensions
This season Juventus are third in Serie A but were knocked out of the Champions League by RC Deportivo La Coruña. In the last month Ciro Ferrara, Gianluca Zambrotta, Alessandro Birindelli, Alessio Tacchinardi and now Buffon have all signed contract extensions.
