Category: Transfer

Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco has confirmed that the club is interested in Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings.

“He is a footballer who we like a lot and we have already said so on a number of occasions,” noted the Bianconeri official.

The German international has been paired with the Bianconeri recently and was spotted with his wife Petra and agent Norbert Pflippen in Turin this week.

However, Secco has shot down claims that the player was in town to meet with the current Serie B leaders.

“I have read about his trip here, but I haven’t seen him,” maintained Secco.

“We are just trying to strengthen the midfield in view of next season and the club is very keen on reinforcing the squad.”

Meanwhile, reports in the northern Italian city have suggested that boss Didier Deschamps may be coming towards the end of his Bianconeri stint.

But Secco backed the former French international midfielder, at least until the end of this season.

“We are happy with the team and the tactician’s performances so far,” he maintained.

“A month ago our general director Jean Claude Blanc said publicly that Deschamps’ contract, which expires in 2008, will be discussed at the beginning of next term.”

Source: Football Italia
