We certainly didn't offload Vidal for Draxler. :confused2
But Vidal was our first choice CAM last year, in our coach's preferred formation....

What kind of ridiculous management sells the only player in the team of the most essential position of a coach's preferred formation, and then fails to find a replacement? That screams incompetence.

Wow...who didnt expect something like this to happen

Look, I'll say it now. If we dont sign a TQ, the squad is incomplete and it hasnt been a great mercato. Simple as that, we've had more than enough time to close this deal.

What I don't get, is why Witsel is seen as an alternative? They are two totally different players.

according to that juvefc.com account on twitter, Sky says Schalke now wants to keep Draxler @Mark
this would make this day fucking hilarious.
At this stage, that now seems like the most likely outcome.

Probably means formation change: not gonna see the 4312 anymore is my bet
Doesn't make sense. 4-3-1-2 is Allegri's favoured formation. Draxler is an AM (he only played LW because of Max Meyer) so he'd fit in that position. Isn't Witsel more of a CM anyway?

This is the confusing part of the mercato.

If you're Draxler, and asked to leave...hours away from the deal being sealed and YOUR club pulls the rug right out from under your feet?

Only 2 options I see are:

1.) WB offered more and he wanted to say in Germamy
2.) Schalke offered a sweet new contract AFTER the one he initially rejected and decided to take it.

Right, but Allegri also can play other formations so I am sure the Witsel type of signing merely solidifies the midfield for 352 or 433 for example. he might have to scrape his formation altogether until a TQ arrives if one ever does.

I cant help but wonder what Draxler is thinking. Maybe pissed off and a market move for January?

But bro... we're building a squad for 3-5-2/4-3-3 :howler:
I don't get why people are making excuses for this, or completely ignoring the fact that Vidal was our CAM last year. It doesn't matter if his best position was as a B2B mid, his versatility allowed us to play 4-3-1-2 last year and reach a CL final, while easily winning a domestic double. To sell the only player in the squad suitable for that position and fail to adequately replace him with at least a player who can play that role and force your coach into a formation change, that's shocking and indefensible. It's downright stupid.

We had the ability to play 4-3-3 before this weekend too, and we got rid of that ability too by offloading Coman, as LWF in a 4-3-3 is his best position. We actually threw away our ability to play 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2 and so on, by offloading Coman. We basically tossed away our ability to play 4-3-1-2 by selling Vidal. What formation does this team actually suit now? 3-5-2? 4-3-2-1 sorta.

Failing to get a CAM is absurd in this circumstance.

If we don't get Draxler, it's better off that we don't sign anyone at all. No need for stupid last second panic-buys. Which might mean we might have to use the January window and get ripped off massively if we are in desperate need of an AM.

Of course Allegri can play other formations - namely the ugly and horrific 3-5-2 which is a proven failure against top European teams. Its good enough for us in Serie A though. We can play 4-3-2-1 as well possibly, but again we now only have 5 attacking players (Mandzu, Morata, Dybala, Zaza, Cuadrado)...we really did need that final piece to the attacking puzzle. I just dont understand how this club always allows itself to get into these long protracted transfer sagas and we never come out with the player. Beyond frustrating. I really though Draxler was ours last night.
