Why do you think that
Even before Tevez, Pirlo and Vidal we bought Dybala, Mandzukic, Zaza and Khedira. None of which made sense to me. They felt just like random opportunities, interesting but didn't give the feeling of a solid plan for a team that had just played a CL final. When we made it through to that stage we looked like a great team in need of fine tuning. Dybala was the only one that looked like it, the rest looked like that woman in the mall who just got her husband's credit card and an ok to empty it.

He's trying to asshole about something i said.

"actual value", would be what an objective market would consider his true value all things considered of quality, marketabillity, goalscoring etc.

"transfer value", is what fee a club would be persuaded to sell him for.

Example Draxler. Lets say actual value 30 million

    - If Bayern comes, domestic rival, transfer value would be 40+ mil. Cause you make a rival pay more.
    - If Juventus comes, imagining we got bayern's finances, transfer value would be not too far off 30mil. Player would like to come here, and we arent a direct competitor. We arent filthy rich either.
    - If city comes, closer to 50mil. Cause they dont mind to spend so much, and they'd be guaranteerd the deal is done and get the player.

I said that once trying to explain, Marotta doesnt seek players that involve this overpaying, but players who'd sell for close to their actual value

The Amurican has since decided to bring it up everywhere

If Man City is interested, 50M. If we are, 32M. If Wolfsburg is interested, 20M.

    Exactly.

And who decides the "actual value?"

    Whatever Marotta thinks, right?

    It's all BS.

Well, Marotta first looks to the market. We want young high potentials when they are still not too expensive, before they tripple in value. Dybala suited that bill, as we think he'll explode here and be amazing, so we overpaid a little to make sure we had the deal done quickly before the EPL snooped in. Tevez was gonna stay another year max, so it was also a bit part of a structure

Mandzukic was an upgrade over Llorente who was gonna go, and to combat with morata. He came at a low price, and was structurally neccecary, so both.

Zaza. Fuck zaza, we'll see what happens with berardi

Khedira came cause we knew pirlo was gonna go

Marotta & Paraticy kinda always done the same. We want extremely talented kids before they explode. So we seek those regardless of position. We want excellent value for money deals, so we seek those if we can fit them into the team.

If possible, we search a bit more specific, like now with AM draxler, or with SS tevez back then.

There is a little structure when its neccecary, but our main goal is to find exciting youth and value for money.

    'BS' is overstating it.

But 'actual value' - as Zach defines it - is certainly all theoretical.

Players, ultimately, are worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
    Yeah but thats my point.

Actual value is theoretical. We can name an appropriate actual value for everyone.

Marotta, refuses to look at players who would cost too much more then this theoretical value

Man city or Madrid, cant care less about overpaying 30%+
