There are shock reports that Schalke have taken Juventus target Julian Draxler off the market, so they push for Axel Witsel.

A deal had essentially been done for the midfielder, worth €26m paid over two years plus €6m in performance-related bonuses.

Juve were waiting for the all-clear from Schalke and were initially told to wait until Sunday morning for a definitive response.

However, on Saturday night Sky Sport Italia claimed that Schalke had taken Draxler off the market.

SportItalia maintain this is because Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg made an approach for the same money offered by Juve.

They’ve got cash now after selling Kevin de Bruyne to Manchester City and Ivan Perisic to Inter.

It would be a heavy blow for the Bianconeri, but they already have an alternative lined up.

They will instead go for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Witsel, who has made it clear he wants a move to Serie A.

He has also been linked with Milan, who were scared off by the €25m price-tag.

Witsel is a Belgium international who can take the trequartista role behind the strikers.

Here's a question...

Why would S04 'Panic' when Wolfsburg matched our offer and took him off the market? Can't they just accept ours and reject theirs?

well tbf, we are strong as we are ^^. more great players always welcome obviously :D.
still an extremely weird and exhausting mercato.
Potentially, yeah.

But at this point I'd say it's both black and white. I would never have guessed we'd do these moves, it doesn't look like a Juve transfer mercato. It's too weird and I see no plan whatsoever. It's also a big gamble considering how much we splashed. Pretty damn weird in my books and unlike previous seasons when I was sure we'd gonna win... now I have no clue what to think.
