Obviously Martinez turned out a big waste of money, he's the worst transfer by miles.

Still, the fee at the time is set, you either pay it or look elsewhere. What comes after that dictates whether it was a good transfer or not. This one obviously wasn't, but it doesn't detract from Martinez's market value at the time.

If we are willing to take 12m dollar punts on players, then surely we can buy someone proven for 20-30m once every 3 years.

i called that even before it happened, but i was brutally attacked and my counter arguments mocked. Esp about rather keeping Giovinco instead...

But you've just used an article that says Martinez was valued at €15m to back up your claim that other clubs should now be interested, but on the other hand say paying €12m was too much?

The article, a few lines from this thread opener, was a sarcastic touch, of course to outline the fact, that we have bought the hype for a mediocre player.
And when someone express his opinion and looks beyond the hype, he is attacked for all the wrong reasons...

By admitting that noone would invest on him, you are just making my point tenfolds...

I did not criticised every transfer move Marotta made, this is only smth my haters claim
and i did not criticise them for the same reasons (ex saying that paying 11mil to get Giovinco's half back was a mistake) and with the same ferocity.
It is one thing to have a so and so opinion about a transfer and another thing to reject it!
This very transfer prooves a lot about Marotta's competitivity. It was one of my main arguments, not a random one...
