Nedved Set To Retire?

According to Italian reports, the Czech player will hang up his boots at the end of this season.

This might be Pavel Nedved’s final season in his career, as according to the Italian media, the Juventus midfielder confided to some friends that at the end of the season he will retire and he will almost surely not take part to the World Cup.

Luciano Moggi has already found the perfect player to substitute the Czech midfielder: Joaquin. The Spanish star has been a target of the Old Lady for a long time and this summer the Bianconeri might make the final approach for the gifted midfielder.

In other transfer news, Palermo’s Barzagli is a step away from joining Juventus and an official announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

We don't Zanetti...we don't need Dacourt...we don't need Cassano...and we certainly don't need that overrated cafone Barzagli. The only players worth obtaining from this list is Joaquin and Mexes obviously, as the others are either too old or too worthless or not needed.

Here's an idea...find a midfielder who is not in his prime yet and mold him to fill the shoes of Emerson or Vieira once their time comes to move on. Would this not make more sense than bringing Dacourt and Zanetti to Turin...two players who would be average for Juventus and are nearing their last legs? At least Joaquin is a younger target but I seriously doubt Moggi is going after him. Our reluctance to take chances on these younger starlets is something I will never forgive Moggi.

Miccoli offered for Barzagli
Tuesday 25 April, 2006

Palermo are ready to release Andrea Barzagli to Juventus in exchange for Italian international Fabrizio Miccoli.

The Old Lady have an option on Barzagli and the Rosanero are ready to allow them to take advantage of that agreement in the summer.

Although President Maurizio Zamparini had initially maintained that he wouldn’t be releasing any of his international players this summer, he’s now ready to sacrifice the former U-21 star.

Juventus have contacted the Sicilian giants and are understood to have tempted them into a sale by including Miccoli in the deal.

The pint-sized striker, undoubtedly one of Italy’s best attacking talents, is currently on loan in Portugal with Benfica.

Miccoli is unwanted in Turin given the incredible amount of attacking options they have and Juventus are finally ready to release him outright after already loaning him to Fiorentina in the past.

Barzagli yesterday admitted that he was unsure of where he would be playing his football next season.

However, the Azzurri squad regular did also admit that he is tempted by the prospect of one day playing for a club of the Old Lady’s stature.

Juventus are keen to introduce a younger element into their defence given the age of Lilian Thuram and Fabio Cannavaro.

Barzagli, crowned a European champion with Italy at Azzurrini level, is looking for the world title with the Azzurri in Germany this summer.

It is the same story every year, Juve are linked with every player on the planet and the fans on this forum get more excited than ever. Just wait a while and witness the formations wit at least five or six new players that none of which was even spoken to.

Rennes are confident that Yoann Gourcuff will agree a new contract despite interest from some of Europe's top clubs

Arsenal, AC Milan and Juventus are all tracking the 19-year-old midfielder, who has played a key role in an encouraging season for Rennes as they look to qualify for next year's Uefa Cup.

"We are in discussions with him and we want to keep him of course," club president Marc Dreossi told www.lequipe.fr.

"I do believe his intention is to stay with us."

Agent reveals Grosso price

Fabio Grosso’s agent has hinted that he could be sold by Palermo this summer for as little as £4m.

The Italian international has been linked with numerous clubs and it seems that the stopper is eyeing a switch.

“He is happy in Sicily, but he perhaps has the desire for a change,” Stefano Antonelli told Radio Radio.

“How much is he worth on the market? His price today would be something in the region of £4m to a potential buyer.”

The former Perugia left-back, who is expected to be a part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup squad, has impressed again this term.

So much so that Inter, Juventus, Milan and Roma have been linked, even if the latter haven’t made contact regarding a possible move.

“It’s no surprise that Roma have been associated with Grosso because they have had a great season and want to improve even further,” the representative added.

“However, there is no real negotiation taking place. Even if there is a desire from the player to join a great side.”

A move may not occur though after Rosanero chief Maurizio Zamparini recently insisted that Grosso was not for sale.
