Cassano expects Azzurri snub Monday 24 April, 2006

Antonio Cassano has almost conceded defeat in his bid of winning a place in Italy’s World Cup squad.
Cassano hasn’t been a regular fixture in the plans of Marcello Lippi and his lack of appearances for Real Madrid since his January switch have hampered him further.
Although the attacking sensation hasn’t totally closed the door on his Germany ’06 dream, he admits he is only an outsider to make it on the plane this summer.
“I haven’t lost hope, but I do think it will be extremely difficult for me to go to the World Cup,” he stated.
“I’m not playing that regularly with my club and it is clear that only those who play consistently will travel.”
Cassano hasn’t had the easiest of times since leaving Roma in January and he didn’t impress in the 2-1 win over Malaga last night when he was handed a rare start.
“I did have a number of opportunities, but the luck is not with me,” he commented. “I played an hour even if I need more time. I’m sure that I will improve.”
However, whispers suggest that he could be set for a quick return to Italy with some sections of the Spanish Press starting to turn on the former Bari player.
“Nobody at Real Madrid is taking responsibility for the most unexplainable signing of the last decade,” wrote the Marca newspaper after the game.
“Everybody in the world, apart from those at Real Madrid, knew that he wasn’t in form and overweight.”
Juventus and Inter are understood to be monitoring the player’s situation who was netted at the start of 2006 for just £3.5m.
Seems we can sign Cassano for nearly nothing.
