It's sad that Italian clubs will now have to resort to the same methods of investment procurement as the EPL teams in order to catch up to them financially. But if that's what it takes to make Serie A competitive again then so be it. As for choosing Palermo, I don't see why not, they have a solid foundation to build on, decent stadium, support and scouting network. The only stumbling block is Zamparini, he's too brash and outspoken.

100 mil for the stadium (just like ours) and 100 mil on new players.

If invested wisely they can definitely build a quality side.
Depends.

100m on new players isn't sustainable in the long term, they'll end up selling everyone. But everything everyone else does is amazing so fap fap fap. Just another reason to hate Palermo :weee:

According to the Rosanero supremo, an Arab businessman, Ahmed Al Zubeidi, is willing to pump €5 billion into the Sicilian outfit over the next five years.

According to Al Zubeidi, he will invest an initial "100 to 200 million euros" which will, in part, fund the construction of a new stadium.

€5 billion???

If they follow our footsteps they can, instead of getting 2 stars

- getting a plan for several years and a good coach behind it
- get a certain style of play, and build a team for it, consisting of decent players that dont cost more then 15mil.
- try to get increased attendance, fans and merchandising and work from there

however, with zamp, not a chance in hell thats happening

I'm skeptical Palermo could pull in a comparable sponsorship deal for a potential stadium (to fund it as Juve did, almost in its entirety). Their marketing presence can't be particularly widespread.

If it's not us winning the title, I rather lose it to anyone but the Milano clubs. So good luck to the now A-rab Mafiosi

I heard that this whole rich people buying Italian clubs will become much bigger and the Italian teams will become popular because of the fact that the Italian teams have so much missing and there are so many ways for new owners to make money out of the teams by modernizing. For example by building and owning new stadiums and get the teams to grow. In for example England and Spain the teams already have modern arenas and the opportunities to invest in a club aren't that many.

What do you guys think about that? Could there be any truth to that?

It's a very real possibility but the reason why foreign investors have largely ignored Italy is because of the crippling red tape/bureaucracy. Too much bullshit to deal with.
Sure, but then again, the Italian economy is not the best and seeing money from the Middle East being invested in their cities could get them to finally give in.

I sort of like having the clubs owned by local businessmen from the same towns, but I guess if Italian football has to move forward and compete financially with the English and Spanish teams again, they are gonna have to be much more willing to be bought out by rich foreign investors. Hope it never happens to us, though

Catania have unveiled their preliminary plans for a new stadium. It will have between 30 000 - 35 000 seats and cost between 80 and 100 million euros. It looks pretty nice. They plan to start the works in 2013 and it will take year and a half to build, so it will be probably ready for the 2014-2015 season.

Do they ever come close to filling out their current stadium, besides when they play the big teams? 30,000 to 35,000 capacity seems like overkill to me but hopefully it would pull in the crowds like our stadium has this season.

Their stadium is usually 2/3 full(they have an average of 15 031 this season in a stadium of 23 420) but I assume that they would be able to fill it every week like us.
Catania has 298,957 inhabitants (752,895 in the Metropolitan Area) which is pretty populous, I think that the size of the stadium they plan to do is perfect.
