Roma is pretty short on midfield options without Strootman. They have a starting 3 of Radja-De Rossi-Pjanic, with Keita as a sub, and then two young guys who hardly played last year in Paredes and Ucan. Ucan was terrible when he played, and Paredes not much better. Not much depth there for competing in 3 competitions.

And then you look at their wingers... Salah, Gervinho, Ibarbo, Iturbe, Falque, Ljajic, Florenzi. Seeing as they play only variants of the 4-3-3, having 7 wingers, and only a single real CF/Striker in Dzeko... Their transfer market was pretty strange. They needed to offload a couple wingers for it to make sense to bring Salah and Falque in. They needed to get a RB so Florenzi could play RWF, a position he is much better suited for, and they needed to get a backup striker in alongside Dzeko, unless they see Totti as such. Ljajic certainly isn't a Striker. They should also have bolstered their midfield depth, as their pretty damn thin behind their starting 3.

He played 7 matches. 2 less than Asamoah.

Strootman has been injured for 18 months and is nowhere near returning, potentially in need of another surgery.

Asamoah has been injured for 9 months, and is less than two weeks from returning...

IMO he's one of those 'floppy' athletes. If you look at Ronaldo for example he's very 'tight' and has tremendous core strength. Strootman doesn't have that tightness. While I can't prove it, I feel that is one of the reasons some athletes get injured and others do not.

Damn, as much as i hate Roma and despise Strootman this is sad. One complicated injury and your career is over.
Yeah, you don't wish injury on anyone. Even if you're making millions that maens nothing when you don't feel well.
