Dzeko is obviously better technically, better at team play. Both as prolific as each other over 5 seasons. Over 3 seasons Mandzukic is more prolific than Dzeko (135.4mpg vs 155.4mpg). Mandzukic is also less likely to be lying on a treatment table.

Dzeko is obviously better technically, better at team play. Both as prolific as each other over 5 seasons. Over 3 seasons Mandzukic is more prolific than Dzeko (135.4mpg vs 155.4mpg). Mandzukic is also less likely to be lying on a treatment table.
I am not a stats man, i trust my eyes when it comes to a player, stats like these don't factor type of the opposition, order of the goal, how many missed chances.....
Maybe Mandzu is as prolific as Dzeko but you can't deny that the bosnian is the better player. I think that Mandzukic fits us better as we will need his pressing and physical game with someone like Dybala and with Morata from time to time.
Conclusion, it will be good year for Calcio, we are weaker, other teams are definetely stronger, end of cycle for us, more i think of it i think this will be the year we lose the Scudetto.

He is the better footballer but then you always appreciate more technically gifted players. All I know is that Mandzukic is a very good striker, he's one of mentally strongest strikers out there, and I don't feel like we have missed a trick. We went for Dzeko in his prime and he turned us down, now he's not, which is why he's leaving City.
Also, Mandzukic is much more a team player IMO, a one-man pressing machine, not just a static old fashioned penalty box striker. Mario isnt as technically skilled as Edin, but he works harder, gets himself in great positions, really good in the air, and is an absolute nuisance for defenders. He is also more of a big game player, and the best part for us, he has that same "cattiveria" that Tevez had.
Contribute more to the play? Since when? It's the complete opposite for long time now, Dzeko is lazy poacher for far too many years, a good one, but useless outside the box nowadays, this is the nr 1 gripe lot of Bosnians I know have with him.
While Mandzukic beside work rate is considerably more useful for general player, superior target man, goes wide (occasionally played winger) , supports his attacking partners, runs the channels well. And generally pretty much never stops working outside the box.

Countless debates I've witnessed who's the better player between the two, usually these grow into something else where I come from.
Džeko might be lazy, doesn't work his ass off like Mandžukić, doesn't press the opponents, but he's more involved in general play, undoubtedly more technical and talented player, can beat his man and isn't solely dependent on others to provide service for him. He isn't some poacher ffs, waiting for others to provide without contributing. He decline in the last few years though.
Mandukić is bullying defenders throughout the game, at times forcing them to make errors and taking advantage on these, has better movement inside the box, good finisher, big game player and I think he's better fit for us in general. But he needs to get the right service. And NO he can't play wide.

This summer (so far) Roma are in an atypical situation for them, because they didn't need to sell a star player in order to get money for new signings. They got 20m for that Bertolacci guy and are about to get +25m for Romagnoli. Both of them didn't even play for Roma last year.
This allows them to keep their strength intact (midfield of Pjanic, De Rossi, Nainggolan) and strengthen elsewhere. They got a solid keeper for free [Szczesny] and they invest the money where they were super thin, in attack.
Now, if they complete the likely transfers of Dzeko and Salah, they can have a strong, fast, technical and potent attacking trio of Gervinho, Dzeko, Salah. Or if they let Gervinho go, they still have Iturbe and Falque.
The defense is strengthened with the return of Castan. Florenzi will probably keep playing RB, where he did a very good job last season. The LB position is the weakness right now, but I read that they are working on this with some LB from PSG.
