Salernitana to Serie B. Great club with passionated fans.
We see Carpi in Serie A next year (not official, but this can't go wrong). The first time in history for the club, I don't like Carpi because of there small fanbase and their awful stadium. It must be said that they are the deserved winners in Serie B. I think it will be a 'Pescara-scenario'. It is a to small club to stay in Serie A.

I hope Bologna goes back to the Serie A, great club with a great history.
Five years ago when I did the "bottom league to the top" in Italy, I picked Salernitana. Had a great campaign over 30 years with them and, ever since, I've always done at least a 20 year campaign with them in following FM games.

Such a great club. I have lots of fake players who I attribute to them.

Yea, Parma(Torino) qualified for this year's Europa League because Napoli, the Coppa Winner qualified for Champions League through the league.

Where I was going is Inter are closing the distance to 6th place. I expect Samp to lose tomorrow and then Inter would only have to catch up 5pts in 6 matches :inter: Meeting a lot of teams which don't have anything to strive for anymore
Yeah but they have Torino and Genoa chasing them. I don't think they qualify as they have a very unique quality to self destruct. but then again, who cares? It's not like they can win that competition anyway. In return they get less rest in serie A and finish 6th again.

So if napoli or fiorentina win EL they put the team that finishes 3rd in the league into the EL?
no. What you described only can happen if CL and EL winner are from the same Top3 league and for the next season they both miss CL qualification through their league (4. spot).
So basically this can never happen :D

edit: It would be funny to see Napoli win EL and finish third. They would be double qualified for Champions League and Roma is the hobo on the street finishing 4th and playing EL

Man. Italian forwards suck now. Berardi and Gabbiadini are the only Italians under 30 in Serie A with 10+ goals this seasons. Both have 11 goals. Eder has 9 goals, Zaza has 8 goals. It's really quite pathetic.

Outside Italy... Immobile has flopped terribly in the Bundesliga. Balotelli has been an unmitigated disaster at Liverpool, and soon to be 30 year old Pelle has 11 goals for Southampton.

That's it. The sum total of Italian attackers between the ages of 20-30. Total shit, aside from Berardi and Gabbiadini, maybe Eder and Immobile if he can regain form next year.

Salernitana are a great little club. Passionate supporters, nice little stadium and cool colours. Oh and the fucking hate Napoli and Napoletani with a passion, so they are cool in my books.

It needs to be said....

Aside from his first 3 months, Gervinho @ Arsenal was far better than Gervinho @ Roma
+
Graziano Pelle can't even start for mid table Serie A sides, now kicks Premier League ass @ Southampton
+
3 Italian teams left in SFs in European Competition, no English teams.

SO....

Serie A > Premier League and it's not even close.

think we will need both lazio and roma to lose today for us to seal it this weekend provided we win vs torino
Roma already lost 2-1 to Inter. :D Only Lazio left. Though I doubt they lose at home to Chievo.

I don't think the Pelle assessment is fair. He's a very good player and only began to get recognised really late in his career, a lot like Luca Toni.

Gervinho was terrorising defences in Italy like he was Messi.

The only valid point is that Italy has had a very good season in Europe while England has had a terrible one. And really, that's the one and only argument that matters. I don't think Italy is there yet but the degree to which Italian sides are overlooked by journalists these days is really laughable.

Serie A isn't what it used to be but there's plenty of quality in Juventus, Napoli, Roma, lazio, fiorentina, and soon probably inter to easily overtake Germanys top 6 for example. But unfortunately, Spain is a class above Series A at the moment with 3 teams realistically competing for the champions league each year. As for England, they just have way too much money and a few bad seasons in Europe isn't enough to convince me that their top sides are lacking quality.

I don't really know what needs to happen for Serie A to regain the top position again, but I know it's not going to be any time soon. However, I do think of the following things happen, the recovery process should go a lot faster.

1. Teams like Fiorentina/Udinese/Samp need to keep their top players within Serie A and not sell them abroad. I think Italy has great scouts and there are constantly great players emerging from the league year after year.

2. Continue taking Europa league seriously. I'm really happy there are two teams in the semis this year and even torino put up a good fight. There should be more of the same kind of mentality every year in Europe and that will undoubtedly attract more media attention, interest, sponsorship etc

3. Follow the Juventus model and spend wisely and cleverly. Teams should make smarter purchases and know their limits. Italy doesn't have the financial power of the premiership and cannot afford to make the same kinds of deals. Instead they should rely on youth and signing good quality for virtually no money. (Evra is a good example)

4. I've read a lot of people talk about how the Milan sides to get back to their best and even though I think there's some truth to it, I also think it's overstated. Leagues constantly have teams that shift places. Liverpool and Tottenham dropped down a few levels, while Arsenal and City went up as compared to 5 years ago. Same thing with athletico and Valencia switching roles in Spain. Yes the Milan clubs did collapse but they'll be back soon enough, in the meantime I think the other teams can easily take their positions and represent Italy in Europe quite well.

I'm mostly being silly.

But Gervinho. He's been total crap, even worse than at Arsenal, aside from the first half of the season last year, coincidentally (wink wink) his first half-season in Italy. Brainless, pacy players do very well in Italy for a very brief time, and then they get figured out, and nullified.
