You can't compare Totti to Alex. Totti was never challenged in Roma and always had a place in the team. He was bigger than Roma. Even when he played like shit he still started. Not so for Del piero, he had to fight for a spot throughout his career because Juventus is bigger than him. And Juve is much bigger than Roma. Who's better? Totti or Del piero? We will never know because Totti never played for a team like Juve. Loyalty is great but to be compared with one of the best in the game, you need to play for the best, and you need to beat the best.

Look, Cassano is very talented, so is Di Natale, and so was Totti. But none of these players can be considered in the same light as Del piero because they never proved themselves in Europe. They might have been, had they joined bigger teams and proved themselves in those teams but the fact is they didn't.

Raw talent doesn't matter, Adriano in terms of raw talent could have been one of the greatest ever. But his career was short lived, and he wasn't consistent enough, and in years to come, his name will be forgotten. And unfortunately for Totti, he might suffer a similar fate. Fans outside Italy know very little about him, but you ask a Real Madrid or Man United fan about Del piero, and they'll tell you a story or two.

Del Piero scored more goals in total, scored more in Champions League, more goals in Europe in general, more goals for national team, Totti scored more goals in Serie A, but well goals are irelevant just like trophies.

Probably more fans outside of italy know of Totti then DP. And at least from the ones probably more will pick Totti as the better. Del Piero is a huge legend of italian game, but as for international stage it's a bit different.

And your comparison totti with cassano or di natale or even adriano is crazy. Totti did bring consistent performences and he was great, I'm almost sure that he will not be remembered as cassano or adriano. He will be remembered as one of the greats to play this game as will Del Piero.

I dunno, that's just my personal expirience with this subject.
Del Piero is loved and known all around the world. Totti doesn't even come close IMO and it has nothing to do with their abilities as footballers. Everyone loves Ale, unlike Totti.

Well it's my personal experience. I'm not talking about who is classier and people think about their personalities, cos I think this shouldn't be a subject when talking about players skills when judging who was the better player.

I dunno about Europe, but in Asia, Del Piero is a much bigger name than Totti is.
Is he still though? Didn't see much of DP shirts or even Juve shirts in south east asia. I would say I saw as many Roma shirts as Juve shirts there :D

As I said, I wasn't referring to their football abilities. It's just I've seen and heard a lot of fans of other teams praising Del Piero than Totti.

Of course not. How can fans outside Italy know about Totti when pretty much everything he has ever done was in Serie A. Roma never impressed in Europe. He played well in Euro 2000 and then did nothing after it internationally. Del piero was also disappointing for Italy but at least he had a lot of exposure with Juve when we were dominating Europe.

As for my second.point. I wasn't just talking about consistency. Di Natale was extremely consistent for Udinese. In fact, he alone, raised their level serveral times over their capacity. He singlehandedly made Udinese a threat to play against for a long time and was very consistent in that too. This was to show that being consistent is not enough.

I have the Adriano example to show that to have pure talent is not enough either. You need to have the talent, consistency, and the chance to play at the highest level to be recognized as a truly great player, and to even be compared to someone like Del piero.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Totti. I just think that comparisons to Alex are ridiculous. They played within very different contexts.

Ah, sorry missunderstood, same here then, it's hard prasing totti when you see him spitting on others. But when it comes to ability as a player most of the people I met (not Juve fans, but fans of other clubs or especialy leagues) would lean towards Totti as the better player.

Totti and Ale comparisons aren't that ridiculous cos they are really on a similar level, one better then the other on some aspects but in general, both are one of the greats of the game, and I am sure both will be remembered as such. Though one has the advantage of being remembered as one of the classiest people to play this game too, you guess which one :p
