Thanks Red, appreciate it :).

What's your view on our beloved ADP? I'm not a fanboy of his so shoot it to me straight :)
May well have gone on to be viewed as a truly great player had it not been for his injury.

He didn't have the vision of Totti, so the loss of pace probably hit him a bit harder than it has Totti.

I've said it before (much to certain people's consternation), but I'd put Totti a level above Del Piero.

I tend to agree with you in all honesty. ADP was only half the player he was post 1998.

Totti level above DP? Now I've heard it all. After injury DP adapted his game to loss of pace and he was always more technically gifted player than the Roman. Free kicks, ball control, passing, vision, etc...Totti has been playing in provincial Roma side, everything went through him, every pass and not disregarding his talent, but he rejected moves to bigger clubs as he knew, he was intelligent enough to realize that he would nowhere have the same amount of influence. DP was top player in a CL winning club and a club which was for many years reckoned as a dominant force on the continent. Same cannot be said for Totti, as he never made that last step. He was never instrumental in a side that was fighting for the most important trophies. Even in the 2006 WC there were 4-5 players more important than him. Both pretty much underachieved with NT in that regard.

Putting aside their personality both are great players and both are (were) legends in Italian football. Old Totti had many qualities in his sleeves, just like Del Piero. I think there's no way Del Piero had better vision than Totti, same goes for passing. Totti excelled at it and he was controlling the whole pitch back in the days when he had Cassano next to him. His through balls, passes to switch flanks and heel passes were on whole another level. He was a different player compared to Alex, he just had other qualities. Both had amazing free kicks but I'd say Del Piero was better at it, same goes for ball control.

Saying how he stayed in Rome because he's a big fish in a small pond is a weak argument. Many players decide to stick in their team for many reasons (Marchisio, De Rossi etc.). Totti also had superb lob shots (his goal against Inter is probably one of the best I've ever seen). Then again, how time went by, Totti's qualities easily started to vanish and he wasn't in the highlights of Roma's play, unlike Del Piero who always carried Juventus and showed consistent level of quality matches. Del Piero didn't cut it in Italian NT, that doesn't mean he was a lesser player because considering your take on it, one could assume that. That being said, I have no idea who would I pick as a better player. Both were great, but both had different qualities to offer.

Del Piero was a big game player he always performed for us and when our backs were against the wall he would always be a player we could count on. With the loss of his pace after his injury he adapted his game to still be a top player. Totti has amazing vision but Del Piero had better control, free kicks, dribbling and probably better shooting.

It's a shame DP got that injury he would easily be comparible to Messi in that regard. I mean we sold Baggio because we had Del Piero and he is regarded as the best italian player of the last couple of decades.

You are mistaken, the man in my avatar is regarded as the best Italian player of the last 20 years, and has a case to be considered the greatest Italian player that ever breathed air.

DP was amazing passer in his days. His flicks for Trezeguet and Inzaghi were legendary, pure fantasy, back heels, left foot, right one, using his head, simply doesn't matter as he was great in that respect. Excellent vision of pass he possessed and IMO better than Totti. Now, I'm not sure how much you've seen DP prior to injury, but that DP is comparable to some of this game's greatest, no room for Totti there.

As for big fish... he was one, wasn't he, but whether he stayed there because of his loyalty or something else is entirely different. I think he realized few other things along the way, but that's just my opinion.

i think thats what vialli said, i dont think it's that far fetched to see totti better than DP, especially if one only looks at their stat, however Alex has him beat in intangibles and from a number perspective has won a lot more silverware.
