I'm with ultras on this one. Little insult thrown now and then and considering it's basically dick measuring between two regions in no way should be enough for stadium ban. Ridiculous decision.
But do you think what they're planning to do will change anything? I don't, if anything it will make it worse. That's the main problem I have with it.

I don't live in Italy so I don't really know how offended the average Italian gets when they hear territorial chants against them (I have Italian friends on both ends of the spectrum), or if it can truly be comparable to racism. But I guess there's a difference between saying "Napoli are a shit club & their fans suck" and "Neapolitans are garbage men who deserve to die of cholera & be cleansed by Vesuvius". One is simple footballing rivalry, the other is discriminating against them based on where they are from.

But yeah really, FIGC should definitely review the type of punishments they hand out for this stuff, I stand by them in that sense. I just don't really agree with what they think the solution is for the strict punishment.

So you would prefer theater atmosphere like the one seen on British stadiums? Cheering in Italy is dying breed and these kind of decisions are only speeding up the process.
Speaking of that. Look what I happened to come across today: Liverpool FC criticised for filming fans at matches

On top of CCTV, some English clubs also have stewards wearing cameras on their heads to watch the fans like they're automatically assumed to be some sort of criminal. Now I can deal with the CCTV so that it can catch people who might actually be causing trouble, but to have guys with cameras staring at you all match is way too much, it would deter me from supporting my team like I would want, real Big Brother shit there.

Not to mention there's already the ban on pyro, as well as flags on poles, and banners have to be within a certain size unless you get prior written permission (and how dare they possibly insult the opposition).

If I understood correctly they've been singing chants offensive to Napolitans and Calabria region and those are qualified as territorial discrimination, but racism as I've seen people mentioning that issue has nothing to do with this one.
Meh, people are too sensitive. Being Sicilian you cop that shit all the time. Just fire back.

My friend heard from someone who was at the match said the chant was "Vesuvio lavali ai napoletani". There were also Heysel chants, which as disgusting as those are I guess are not part of the reason why the stadium is closed.

Let me also add something interesting. I just read the Inter ultras "call to action" letter, and they bring up the fact that entire political parties exist that are based on territorial discrimination/anti-immigration (completely legitimate, with people having seats in Italian Parliament & all)... yet they are going to go after supporters who chant things at a match that these politicians espouse in everyday life. And more Italian people hear those guys talk than the 100 or so fans for two minutes at a football match. Now THAT is what's really backwards.

I guess that's the downside of technology usage for the safety purposes. Something like that will eventually find its way in Italy and if that kind of security can help clubs in eliminating bigger problems, problems concerning racism, violence, then why not. I don't mind typical pissing contest between fans from different cities, regions, countries, and it's fair to assume that almost everyone who went to a single football match experienced and probably contributed to that atmosphere. As long as it is within acceptable boundaries of course.

You think it's perfectly reasonable for whole stadiums to be closed at the drop of a hat like is happening this season?
No, I just find it funny for what things people have energy to do something and for what they have none.

Think it's such BS that you can't insult other regions in the same country. Especially since Milan are getting a ban for the first video of chanting 'noi non siamo napoletani'

If that's true, that's probably the least offensive one there is, I've chanted worse shit at the stadium ffs. That just makes me worry that eventually you won't be able to say anything that's not a glowing compliment to the opposing side.

There is certainly some stuff like the monkey noises for example that have zero place in football (or anywhere really) but now this is beginning to just look like a severe overreaction.

So Heysel and Superga chants are all fine and dandy, but saying that you are categorically NOT a Neapolitan or that you hope a volcano explodes and washes Naples, thats a no-no

Italy

Even Napoli's Curva B had a banner that says "NAPOLI COLERA: Now close the curva!" - lol. At least they have a sense of humour

They are all fantastic! People are too sensitive.
Exactly. It's funny as hell.

If people get annoyed or offended it's because the chants are based in some truth.

One example of chants we sing here for our beloved rivals Flamengo. They have a famous chant based on a Ayrton Senna song that used to play on TV when he won races. Saying they are a team of tradition, bla bla bla.

So we chant this on the same tune:
"Tu és time de otário e cuzão, puta viado e ladrao"

- "You are a team of fuckos and assholes, whores, fags and thieves"

Flamengo is the most popular team in Brazil and they are particularly popular among the poor people. So we have a lot of chants saying they are a team of thieves, let the favela silence, and many others.

Fuck this hipocrisy in Italy.

The only thing that bothers me is that Juventus is very popular also in the south part of the country. In the long run we will loose supporters in that area. I believe that in some years our fan base in Italy will reduce, being more stricted to the north area.
