There are disturbingly few good defenders just now.
I think a lot of the shortage of top CBs is down to defensive players who are technically good being made into DMs when twenty years ago they would have been CBs.
Means you get very few of the sweeper-type CBs and more of the aggressive Vidic type CBs.
I had a "disqgreement" with an arse recently who said John Terry was a great defender,I countered that Carvalho saved his ass hundreds of timesca season.....nearly as bad as the test gym instructor who claimed Gary Neville was "the best fullbac of the last 20 years"

even in lower leagues in germany a slap or punch like that would lead to a possible one season ban, so zlatan can count himself lucky that the FIC obviously does not anger their star players in the hope of keeping them in the league thus keeping the attractiveness of the league at a steady level
regarding the discussion if it is better for us if ibra plays or not i am seriously concerned how much you guys seam to shit your pants trying to figure out if it would be more likely for us to win if he played and choked or if he did not played at all... even fearing that the other milan players might step up and play as a team really shows how much you are shitting your pants.
get real people, if we are good enough, we will win against milan with or without ibra and on a not so unrelated note i couldn't care less if we win against milan as long as we take the scudetto and as we all know you win by getting the easy points and not by only beating the top teams. winning against milan does nothing more for us than winning against parma. if we win against milan and loose against parma we did not achieve anything. it's not like we did never win against the big teams... but to quote del neri ... "it's not like juve win the scudetto every year" so please get that scudetto and see how milan can brag about a win if we get our 30th scudetto in the end !

What do you guys think of Puyol? And Ledley King? 
The most unbelievable thing is that after every of those 20 goals I get the feeling that he hit the ball precisely where he wanted to, no matter how sharp the pass was or how much power he put into his shot, he always meant for the ball to end up exactly in that or that corner. Most of the great goals scored leave me with a feeling that there was some kind of luck involved, but surely not these ones.

We always do hope to get an easier opponent/group in the CL even though we know for sure that if we are good enough, we have to beat our rivals even if they are relatively stronger than the rest. Milan without Ibra are toothless in attack so it's normal for people to prefer playing against a Milan without Zlatan.

We don't know for sure what kind of game Chiellini is going to have, it's better that Zlatan stays away.
Strange coincidence that Chelsea's defence has looked iffy pretty much ever since Carvalho left.
I like Puyol more at RB than at CB.
King is a pretty good CB, because he does read the game well.
Could have been a very good play if he hadn't had so many injuries.

Apart from the rough butchers, I think there still are some intelligent defenders out there, who are a joy to watch when in form (like the three names above). The grass always is going to be less and less greener as the time passes, but some of you are sounding like there's no good defending in modern game at all, cheer up guys. What are your favorites Red apart from the obvious Barzagli?

Nesta is the best CB I've seen.
Carvalho and Ferdinand are/were very good.
I can only think of Hummels of the younger batch that has the potential to be really good.
Still, I enjoy watching aggressive CBs, too.

Walter Samuel is fantastic as well, but doesn't really fit either category, since he is more of a man-marker type.
