Ya the whole hype around him was centered around the idea that if he was as good as he was at 18, then imagine how he'd be when he's older. Looks like he's more of an early boomer though, as he hasn't really improved drastically over the years. He's a very good defender, but its become obvious now that he isn't going to turn into the world class defender people expected him to be.

I usually criticize the excessive hype around young players, but to be honest, i myself fell for Sakho. Because at 17-20 he was better than most defenders his age. So i guess the hype around him a couple of years ago was understandable.

That being said, he's still 21 and has a lot of time ahead of him, defenders peak later than other players, so he could still potentially improve.

the difference between good defenders and great ones is the ability to read the game, pretty much any physically talented defender can be taught to time his challenges and cover the right angles, however i dont think it's possible to teach him to read the game, either you got it or you dont.
